FF13 - Week Eight
Ormondroyd Posted Feb 26, 2005
I got all from that game, but I've already doubled my total from last week thanks to Steele of the Orient and Parkin of the Silkmen.

An interesting week, a very wide spread of points scored on the four games available. With four full houses won on three of the matches
The net effect upon the table is that the top two places have tightened up a bit, but that most of the chasing pack has lost some ground on the leaders.
For the future, I would say that one to watch is Owlatron. He's not won a week yet, but these last few weeks has come second or third in the list, and is now gliding gently up the table from a rotten opening position of 18th.
The other notable fact is the absence of weekly winners. Last week Number Six slammed through and won the week, but was absent this week. This week, after a week's absence, Tobbot comes charging through to win week 8 with an excellent 11 points. Nice one
-------------
The Results:
Macclesfield 2-1 Bristol Rovers (PARKIN, Elliott)
Swansea 2-1 Scunthorpe (TRUNDLE, Butler)

Ah. I've just got back from Barnet 2 Aldershot Town 1 with the feeling that there was something I'd forgotten... hey, I'm not doing *too* badly in this league considering I've only remembered to get my entry in four or five weeks out of eight.

o hapless happenstance! o desolate desolation! o misery of miseries i am struck to the quick and just really don't feel great!
what seemed to be the easiest week yet has been my sheer, utter, resounding and final downfall. o woe is me to sink so low o blablabla...sniff, sniff...

Only got 4 myself - and three of the games semmed obvious to me to - the only one I struggled over was would The Iron be able to get a point at Swansea - I went for 2 - 2 - though it was at first 2 - 1.

Meisere, the Tony Curtis stuff is happening because another BBC sits, iCan, is moderating h2g2 users nicknames. See here for the start of it all - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/F25024?thread=597667

I could have got a ticket very easily if I had decided to go.
I didn't go for two reasons. One, I recently lost my job, and twenty quid for a ticket plus forty for petrol, and then beer and pies on top is a bit of a hefty mouthful.
More importantly, two, I didn't believe that we had a hope in hell of winning. I though that after the Highbury experience that Arsenal would make damn sure that they beat us and would come with all guns. I didn't really fancy the idea of a 500 mile round trip, much of it in the company of returning Arsenal fans along the M1, after seeing my team get humiliated.
How wrong I turned out to be

Having said that, if you had shelled out the best part of a ton for the trip, you'd be totally gutted if you'd lost on penalties.
(as a bizarre Freudian typo, I nearly posted the last word of that sentence as 'panties' )

No not really. We were never expected to win, so to see a performance that good regardless of the result would have been wonderful.
I don't know if you caught the crowd reaction after the game, but it wasn't people wearily trudging their way out of the stadium in disappointment. No, they were staying in the stands and applauding the team.

As meisere, or Salt n Shake, or whatever the he's calling himslef this week has rightly pointed out. The postponed East Stirlingshire v Gretna game was played out on Tuesday evening.
Whilst this is stretching the bounds of what I would call acceptable for additional points and stuff, I've decided to mark it up and add the points to the table.
All the people who made a prediction predicted a Gretna win which Gretna duly went and did, four-nil. (The scorers were BINGHAM, McQuilken, Nicholls and Baldacchino). Therefore with the following exceptions, everyone who played gets an additional 2 points.
The exceptions are:
McKay and Iamnezzy who hit a full house and get an additional 5 points.
Sprout who got the scorer and first scorer correct, and so gets an additional 4 points.
Tobbot and Yakus made predictions for only 4 of the games, leaving the East Stirling game off of their list. Their decision to do so means that they should score no points for this game. However the management do recognise that the news that this game was off had been posted in the thread before the pair of them posted their predictions. In the light of this, I have decided not to punish them too severely, and will award them both 1 Pools Panel point.
None of these additional points affects the overall winner for the week. That remains as Tobbot.

Whoops! I missed out Demon Drawer - mainly because he insisted in inserting the teams' nicknames in his posting which makes it bloody hard to read and easy to miss as you scan down the thread, and I wish he would blinking well stop doing it
Anyway, he gets an additional 3 points as he got the score line correct as well as the win bonus.
Key: Complain about this post
