Actually, second thoughts, I do have something to ask. I'm wondering about picking up a PS3 or XBox 360 second hand. Any advice on which is better? I'm mainly interested in games, though a catch-up TV thingy would be good. Not bothered about any of this social networking nonsense (present company excepted of course, but I will still have ye olde PC for coming here).

I finally obtained a PS3 about a year and a half ago, mostly to have something else that plays video besides the overworked PCs. Picked it partly because it doubles as a DVD/BluRay, but also because almost any game I'd want to play on a 360 I can play on my PC already.
Before I bought it my roomie and I looked through lists online that said what games they had; PS3 happened to have the ones we were more interested in. They both have plenty to choose from at this point, though.

I inherited a PS3 last year, so I didn't have to make the choice. It does seem though that the best way to choose is to see which one has the games you want.

I've never had a dedicated games machine, but then I've never played the kind of games that require me to fly or drive or leap over things. Or shoot them. I haven't shot at anything since the days of Doom.

I was pretty good at Asteroids, but sort of lost interest after that, lack of money / time.
by the time I had modern computer kit and the time to play I was and am so far behind the gaming curves, that I have lost interest.

Osh (aged 11) carefully weighed up PS3 vs Xbox, and chose PS3, if that helps.

I've always been a Nintendo fan and play the classic Nintendo games like Super Mario and Donkey Kong. I tend to hear from people that Nintendo never does anything new and there is no innovation, but I disagree - even if they are a bit slow with releasing stuff for the WiiU.But the new Mario Kart for instance is simply great.
I prefer playing most other games on my PC. If something is released for both PC and console I'd never buy the console version.

I was going to post this in the Atelier's gamers thread, but since we are on the subject here...
I see I am among the last to discover A Dark Room - http://adarkroom.doublespeakgames.com/
It's also available on iOS and Android and I am playing on my tablet. It's a rather nice way to meld a text based game with newer technology.

We're going camping tomorrow. So of *course* I step in a hole on the way to fill the chickens' waterer and feeder to last until we get back

We have several gaming consoles at my place. The two that get used are the PS3 (by me) and the PS4 (by my wife). They are a bluray player as well as a gaming console, have support for several streaming options (netflix etc.) and the games available on them exclusively include several series that I like.
We also have an xbox360 and Wii. Neither of those are commonly used.

Another salonista with an ebook published. It's been out for over a year, but I had forgotten about it until the other day -- Little Lost Dogs by WRH Soland. That's our Irv. It's really quite good!
