Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.") Posted Jan 6, 2014
Now that the Christmas break is over I can actually accomplish something in finding work.

*sputters*
So I've been w*rking today (closing the books not only for December but also for the year 2013, and thought I'd relax by watching online TV, while mixing myself a G&T without looking what I was doing.
Ever tried pouring a bit of gin and then top it up with gin? Don't!

That rapidly gets into Ginntonyx (-ntonyx) territory aka smashing ones brain out with a velvet covered brick.

While it might make for an interesting experience, my taste buds protested - vividly.

Or would 'objected' be a better word than 'protested'?
See, I'm thinking of taking this course in 'Creative Writing and Narrative Theory' (in English). While I often strive to find 'le mot juste' I find myself trying even harder after considering taking this course.

And I blame Pastey (rather than 2legs, for a change) for putting such ideas in my head, especially after reading his novel.

Santragenius V Posted Jan 6, 2014
But surely 2legs was behind the gin / gin thing?
A friend of mine once made a very dry martini - gin, topped up with vodka. I wasn't there though - nobody who was apparently remember much of it

Florida Sailor All is well with the world Posted Jan 7, 2014
The 1st big freeze of the season, they say we may drop to 28 deg(F) about -2C.
It was about 80 yesterday, but cold and rain the previous 3 days. Spent Saturday night in my tent at a living history event. We all had a good time, but I am glad to be home with heat tonight
It is supposed to be back near 80 this weekend I suppose we can survive

For a day at Ladera, everything went well. I'm relaxing right now, listening to three televisions and a new admit screaming and cussing out the staff.
"I'm gonna put you on a clean nightgown," the substitute aide announced to my room mate this evening. I'd never heard that syntax used in 2nd person before.

Hi Lill
"I'm gonna put you on a clean nightgown,"
I understand how this is totally grammatically incorrect, but I find it a standard style. I notice you do not give the ethnic or regional background of the aid.
I believe this is a fairly common south-eastern dialect, I believe it is more regional than ethnic, but I have not really considered it before your posting.
Put you on a hat, it's cold outside!

The Swedes would say
'I'm going to put on you a clean nightgown.' (translated from Swedish )
Weather prediction for today: +7ºC/44.6ºF with a compact cover of coulds and a bit of rain.
Prediction for Saturday: -7ºC/19.4ºF with clear skies and sunshine. I really hope so, we haven't had any sunshine for several days. And we didn't have a chance of seeing the recent meteorite shower, of course *sulks*

Mind you, make sure a Swede always tells *what he/she is going to put on you, otherwise it'll be slang synonym for... you know...
*remembers one of Sweden's very first talk show hosts Jacob Dahlin once finished the show by saying 'now I'm off to put on the producer'*
In the late 80ies, it caused a bit of a scandal. Especially since they were both male.
