By the way, Expedit is the Swedish word for a person standing behind a counter selling you stuff.
*feels a twinge of nostalgia as she recalls waiting for more than 1 hour on Friday afternoons, queue number in hand, to step up to an Expedit to buy alcohol at Systembolaget and the gratitude she felt when a man, who had spotted a friend who not only had a much lower queue number but also agreed to bunch their purchases together handing her his number with a remaining queueing time of only 20 minutes*

Small cod and chips £6:10 at my favourite chippy here in south Nodnol.
There are plenty of cheaper ones, but nowhere near as good.

Well, Carriere seemed to manage Mog's Usual pretty well...
*is being escorted back to the hearth rug by Ripley*
Matina, a big bowl of mixed greens for Springie and Ripley please!
Fine, I'll take the first dive *eyes Carriere*
Carriere, a G&T please!

No good places near my office for fish and chips anymore. There used to be a very good place, but road construction drove them out of business.

Matina the Maidbot Posted Feb 26, 2014
*comes out of the kitchen bearing two trays, of cinnamon rolls and mbougatses respectively, and sets them on the table, then turns to inspect Carriere*
*the arm opens the small door and extracts a calling card with a ring of the bicycle bell, then politely extends the card to Matina, who accepts it for a long moment*
*Matina pockets the card and returns to the kitchen, closing the door behind her*

We'll take all the rain Milla and Bluebottle don't want. Happily.
I tossed a little something in peer review just now, if anyone's interested.

Carriere the BistroMath Refreshment Machine Posted Feb 26, 2014
*the arm opens the small door and pulls out a straight glass full of ice cubes and holds it under the spout rather unsteadily*
*a clear carbonated beverage fills the glass*
*the glass is set down clumsily, sloshing the drink slightly, and the bicycle bell rings twice*

Keith Miller yes that Keith Miller Posted Feb 26, 2014
I went fishing again today and caught some nice fish which are sitting in the fridge now all filleted up and ready for a nice nosh about on Friday evening here but I also caught some ripper squid!
Calamari for tea we had tonight. I cleaned them, sliced the tubes into rings and marinated them in an exquisite Japanese pure Soy sauce with Bonito flakes used in the fermentation process, this adds a very smokey/hickory cast to the sauce.
Minimum effort is required and minimum cooking too. Just drop into a shallow pan after you've coated them in a nice cornflour and then let them briefly sizzle in the heated macadamia oil(not sure you can get this king of all healthy oils in your respective countries without selling a kidney or an ear) and after the first turning they are basically done, all that's needed now is a nice dry Reisling and salt and lemon...

I have to admit I can't stand squid I've had it cooked properly and all, but I just can't stand the taste of it.

I haven't had calamari since I was living in Corfu. Mostly harmless, a bit rubbery.
*goes over to Carriere and inspects the drink* Who ordered a gin and tonic?
Love the peer review article, Happy Nerd.

Oh, that'd been I, but it was several hours ago - do you think it had to google for the recipe?
*eyes the would be G&T*
Is there really any gin in it?

I don't read a lot of peer review these days.
It has got a bit encyclopaedia galactica, so I ought to offer my apologies, but I won't.
However Happy Nerds piece is a
Well done

I find it interesting that the latest Mercedes Benz commercial on Swedish TV quotes one of the poems written by Karin Boye published in 1927 - fancy someone still using her poetry more than 80 years later.
Part of the quote is on the front page of the Karin Boye Society:

Having browsed through three different translations into English of the poem 'I rörelse' I found the one done by David McDuff most to my liking:
IN MOTION
The sated day is never first.
The best day is a day of thirst.
Yes, there is goal and meaning in our path -
but it's the way that is the labour's worth.
The best goal is a night-long rest,
fire lit, and bread broken in haste.
In places where one sleeps but once,
sleep is secure, dreams full of songs.
Strike camp, strike camp! The new day shows its light.
Our great adventure has no end in sight.

Both--up here at Nickle Creek, since camping there's free Tent camping only, the hike down to the campsites is about a quarter mile or so--since you wouldn't be worrying about a toddler going over the edge of the trail, a fairly easy hike.

I'd like to think that there was gin in that drink - but it would also seem that Carriere sampled it thoroughly during the process. I mean - did you see that wobbliness?
Maybe it was just to be sure that the gin was decent gin? (A76213)
