Dark nights, so time to geek out. Just obtained an old Dell workstation 530 with twin Xeon 2.2 processors for £30 and a NEC 20inch LCD screen for £15.
So the question is...... XP pro (legal of course) or a Linux distro (which will undoubtably fly)

Thinking of using as a media server. Hmmmm...

Just out of curiousity, how many of you click 'Report this error' in Windows? These days, I only do it if I think it was a Micros**t program that caused it. Haven't noticed it resulting in anything much though. At all, in fact.

Yes, Oblivion crashed again, but I'm fairly sure I know why and I'm certain it didn't cause any actual damage to my computer, so why the smiley - bleep should I tell Micros**t about it?

Haven't done that for a while. Win 7 has been stable on all the machines for some time.... *said quietly so that Micro**t don't get big-headed*

Hadn't thought of Roget for a while. Nice to have the "last seen" told, Ag.

I am daft. I wrote a poem I was very pleased with, so I showed it to my husband. I also showed him the poem-written-by-professional-published-poet that inspired me (it had an unusual structure which inspired me. The subject matter was entirely my own. Why am I hastening to add this? I am so touchy on the subject. Blasted versifiers. Bouncing about like scalded cats). Naturally, said husband is more impressed by the original. I am having the colossal effrontery to be just a teeny tiny bit hurt. Up against a PROFESSIONAL PUBLISHED POET I ADMIRE IMMENSELY and I'm still a sore loser. I must go and put my head in a bucket.

Greetings to all, for those who have met me before, welcome back, and to those who I haven't yet met, I'm very pleased to meet you.

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

I'm tired-tired.

I have 5 cats, and 4 of them have totally acclimatized to my limited mobility. They know that at night they have till about 10:30 pm to get inside or else they stay out all night. They know that, once I'm in bed I stay there until the sun comes up the next day. They know where the wheels are at all times because they don't like it when I run over their tail.

They even seem to understand that rolling back and forth from the front door (across a slope in the floor, uphill) is hard work and I get irritable if I have to do it too often, so they go out and stay out.

But not Precious (whom I did not name). This little cat wants to go out just a few minutes after I've let her in, after she has cruised the food dishes and noticed that we have a front door and it's closed.

It's no use getting angry -- that upsets her and makes her more determined to leave the house. And then in the morning, pre-dawn, if she stays in she starts walking all over me and yelling. I know cats are narcissistic but this is ridiculous.

In other news I hear that the great detritus pile from the Japanese tsunami is predicted to arrive on California's shores in early 2014.

I'm apologizing in advance for the utterly tasteless remark I'm ~about~ to make.

Well, I guess I could stand on the shore with a scoop net and fish out parts from the reactors, as spares for our Plant.
smiley - groan
Oh, all right. That wasn't ~too~ bad. I'm just hedging my bets.

The news piece said they had tested for radioactivity and found none. You'll have to fish in the Mississippi instead.

It's great to see NooHooToo so busy, especially this thread, and having caught up with the backlog, it's wonderful to see so many old friends around the Atelier.

We're still missing a few though, Amy the smiley - ant to name but one.
