Talking about glasses. At the newspaper I used to work for we had a clause in our contracts saying if an eye specialist confirmed our eyes had deteriorated through using a VDT (visual display terminal - or in today's terminology, computer monitor) the company would pay for corrective frames and lenses. Thanks to this clause (and a tame eye specialist) (I and most of the others I worked with) have glasses with titanium frames. Extremely lightweight, virtually indestructible and extremely expensive, they are excellent.
Talking about glasses. Y of NZ sparkling wine please Matina. Just the thing for a lovely Saturday Morning in Kiwiland - the birds are shining and the sun is singing.

Now if only I could find a specialist to help cure me of my obsessive use of brackets...

Hello everyone!
How be things today then?
Y of the Canfrieda please Matina, thankyou...
You know, the funniest thing's been happening to my transmissions to San Beta recently. Every time I call someone, some sort of polka tune is to be heard in the background. It's terribly confusing...
Probably about time I checked up on my COMPIGRAM, see if everything's alright...

I know that I can get assistance in the cost of glasses (not contact lenses tho) from the company as I work in front of a monitor all the time.
Pr. C. Tonks, at least it can't be as bad as the DHL hold music, some sort of pan pipe muzak thing, eughhh

Polka? *suddenly wonders whatever happened to that little polka derringer that Affi gave her*
Looney, where have you been? It must be a week since I just missed you When you find your bracket specialist, see if he knows a doctor who works with semi-colonists.

Message from the colonies. Lil, I have been walking hard at home doing the pre-press work on Shearing magazine. (I mentioned the mag a week or so ago). Being the first issue I have been involved in, I had to set up all the templates, reset all the existing advertisements, get the copy from contributers etc. The magazine was previously produced in Wellington, a city 200 miles away from where I live.
Basically I started with 40 blank A4 pages. Deadline is the end of the month. As with all publications, the first one is the toughest to put together. The magazine appears three-monthly.

I've been there for preparations, but haven't settled on a costume yet. Kasia's party is at her pub, the Crossed Purposes, everybody.
Looney, I remember you saying you had a new magazine, or a major role in it. What exactly are you now -- sr editor or what? And by the way, congratulations.

The guy who recently purchased the magazine is a journalist who covers the rural beat for one of New Zealand's bigger newspapers, "Hawke's Bay Today". He is doing most of the writing for the magazine while I am doing everything else. The magazine will be printed by HB Today (on the big newspaper printing presses) after I deliver the "camera-ready" pages to them.
Shearing magazine is distributed, by subscription, to the USA, UK, Australia and NZ.
And by the way, thanks.

Dare I ask what it's about then
With a name like Shearing ang knowing there is a high sheep population in NZ...

Lonnytunes - Winter Is Here Posted Oct 27, 2000
Phil, it is a magazine devoted to world of shearers. It covers all aspects of the world-wide shearing industry and the people in it. Similar to FAT magazine (the bible of the obese) it also carries stories of general interest.
If you would like to give me your email address I will send you a picture of a recent cover. Lil, were you pleased with your copy?

Good evening, all!
Matina, a Y of champagne, please...

Glasses? Well, I am certainly looking forward to middle age changes, I'm told my short/near-sightedness will be reversed...

I had hoped my sight would last. I am making apointments with optometrists (or opthamologists I never remember) soon. As a child I was blessed with 20/15 vision. It has in recent years deteriorated and I have not had my eyes checked for anything other than the simple test the DMV requires since I was 7.

Hi Marv!
You really ought to have your eyes checked, you know...
Being in need of glasses but not using them will strain your eyes unnecessarily, which might cause headache, tiredness, and being generally tensed...

And staring at a monitor for 8 hours a day by profession and another 66-10 hours by hobby helps not. I am asking some friends for a good eye doc to go to here in SLC. I understand that with certain tints your eyestrain can be reduced greatly. I hope that this is the case. I like to be able to see clearly. Anyone know where I can complain about the design of the human body? I think that it needs soem cq.

I have to agree with you about the design flaws, Marv. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where the CS department is.
Loony, congrats on the magazine! That is wonderful news!
And could I please have a Y of the bubbly? It has been quite a week!

Marv, I could give you the name of a eye doctor, but that would have to be in Sweden...

Thank you, Titania.
*takes Y and sips slowly*
Yes, exactly what I needed.
My eye doctor is a bit closer, Marv, but I'm not sure you want to come to Denver just for an eye appointment.
