dElaphant (and Zeppo his dog (and Gummo, Zeppos dog)) - Left my apostrophes at the BBC Posted Aug 19, 2005
That is Jersey Gummo, he's a little tyrant and just this moment stole Zeppo's greeny biscuit after having finished his own. I caught him mid-yawn when I snapped that picture, but it does make him look vicious instead of just sleepy.
Good luck on the job interview, Hati.

Those of the Salonistas that appreciate Terry Pratchett's books, there's an edited entry about him on today's front page: A4643895

Soon a new PTerry book is giong to be out. I can't wait as I believe that it is another City Watch book (my favourite story arc).

*steps into the salon from the party* I thought I'd get a cup of tea and a bit of breakfast.

Ormondroyd Posted Aug 19, 2005
There are actually *two* new Terry Pratchett books scheduled for publication in the UK on October 1. The main one is a full-length Discworld novel called 'Thud', which is indeed about the City Watch - specifically, about how the Watch try to control a growing conflict between trolls and dwarfs. Can't wait - I too love the Watch stories, and identify very strongly with Sam Vimes.
'Thud' apparently mentions how, every day, Sam has to be home by six to read a children's book called 'Where's My Cow?' to his offspring. A real-life version of 'Where's My Cow?' is being published at the same time as 'Thud' - I think it'll actually consist of a short kids' story by PTerry with lavish illustrations.

I thought that was a magnificent picture of Gummo. When will we see Zeppo in full court dress?
I went to a meeting of my very first book club last night. Well, the book club itself has been going on for years--they meet the third Thursday of each month. I only heard about it last month, courtesy of a poster at my public library (Three cheers for public libraries!). I was somewhat intimidated going into the meeting, because I thought I would be an intellectual lightweight. I was sure they were going to discuss themes and symbolism and philosophy and all that highfalutin' stuff, but no. They're a lovely bunch of people who seemed to be primarily focused on the pretty bookmark someone had or who's wife was having an operation. I was the only one talking about themes--and the obvious ones at that, which no one else noticed. I'll go back next month, and this time I know I have nothing to be afraid of because I'm the highfalutin' member. Who knew?

Agapanthus Posted Aug 19, 2005
The husband has been 'off sick' with Revenge of the Takeaway today ( - mostly vile indigestion. Nothing involving bleach, basins and my nursing skills. I merely made chicken soup). So as he has a bizarre work ethic (neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish, unlike mine (yes, I do all three. Discuss with my parents please. I wasn't allowed a say in the matter at the time)) anyway, as S has a blasted work ethic of some sort, he has been on the pooter all day being wise and enriching his colleagues' work-day by email. So I have been incommunicado in the bedroom listening to Richard Fawkes' 'History of Classical Music' on the iPod, relearning exactly why it is I can't stand Schopenhauer, and knitting. I have finished this *does a twirl* fetching bright red tank-top. Or vest, I think our American friends call them. In somewhat itchy yarn that I rescued from my mother's attic and is probably older than I am. It has been raining all day and is cooler than usual for August, so a sleeveless fine woolly is a most useful garment. I feel quite pleased with myself. And the husband is ACTUALLY WEARING the socks I made for him for Christmas.
On the other hand not a word, NOT A WORD, has been added to The Novel. I could argue that I couldn't help it as S was using the glorified typewriter that lets me play on the Internet during 'moments of thought', but really truly I had a zillion notebooks with me and quite a few nice pens and so I am BAD - spang go all three work-ethics at once. Luckily they are having some kind of internicine war and leaving me out of it, so they're mostly back-ground noise. I think the Jewish one is winning, strengthened by the approach of Rosh Hashanah and the atavistic urge to buy a new pencil-case. I shall simply have to go and stare at the tea caddy for a few minutes now. It's been that sort of day. Oh, and make more chicken soup for the invalid. He tried to eat an oat-cake just now and it was not a conspicuous success.

What is it about Chicken Soup? It really is a perfect food, isn't it?
for some reason. I had a large ham and egg roll for lunch, and I wonder if it might be the wheat flour.

Ag, I wish I could knit. I crochet, but have only managed blankets and the like.
OH! I got the bookstore job! I start a week from Sunday, and I think it's going to be great...if a serious pain to manage time.

Homemade chicken soup sounds good. I have a bit of a wonky tummy today after all of Wolfgang's rich food.
Congratulations MR.
