Amy, " It turns out one can no longer wear one's glasses when getting a DMV photo--glasses are a disguise, donchaknow (To her credit, the only person working the counter at the DMV found it ridiculous, too.) It's difficult to focus on the blue dot for the camera if you can't *see* said dot... "

Dang -- I'm soooo toast, then! Besides looking like a lost squirrel without my glasses, I won't be able to find the camera let alone a teensy lil blue dot.

In keeping with the past month or so, I lost one of my favorite earrings today -- a sterling silver and cloisonné kanji for Happiness/ Good Fortune. Figures. smiley - laugh

I hate my driving license picture. I consider it a form of state torture that I am required to carry it around and show it to good-looking young constables.

Don't know if this is true in NM, but in CA I've gotten the same bad photo every time I've renewed my license, since 91! The only change is that the background tint gets yellower -- not my best color. Can't. Escape. Cursed. Image. smiley - grr

I've just been watching terrifying video of the water sweeping relentlessly inland, brushing away cars, ships and buildings as if they were made of paper. Widespread tsnumani warning across the Pacific smiley - sadface

It is quite scary, especially when you read the Tsunami warnings as well.

I'm giving up meat for Lent as usual.

My R has family and lots of friends on Hawai'i, where he grew up. It's predicted to strike there at 3 am local time.

I've just watched the video: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12709850 and I'm at a loss for words.

How do you face something like that?

We're safe, and will remain that way!

My FaceBook messages to my friends:

Woken up by a combo of tsunami warning siren and knocking on the door. Checked online--earliest possible arrival of tsunami is in 2 hours, and we're outside the evacuation zone. In fact, we're closer to the nearest gathering point for evacuacees than we are the evacuation zone border. Tom is getting vital papers from the thriftstore and the book store, which are both in the zone.

Actually, Crescent Elk is closer to the border than we are, by about a block. (We're closer to the skinny little area by a couple of blocks, but the tsunami isn't forecast to be higher than the cliffs.)

The earliest possible arrival time is (now) just under 2 hours, and the farther store is less than 10 minutes away (the other is on the way back).

Glad to hear you're going to be okay, Amy. Hopefully, it will have lost it's punch by the time it gets there.

If nothing else, this one and the one in NZ have got me updating my earthquake kit. Going to get bottled water today, plus pack non-expired items of dried food for Missysmiley - cat and me. Still don't have my solar
(or hand-crank) radio. Should also get a space blanket or two.

We just had this discussion a few months ago, on Ask. Has everyone updated their supplied recently? Or refilled them, after all that SNOW.
