A Conversation for LIL'S ATELIER

Titania (gone for lunch)

I've started reading 'American Gods' after having found it at the local library (pocket book format). I'm only on page 55 but what an odd book it is. Makes me look at RL differently somehow, expecting things to go weird like in the book. Almost missed my tube station - it felt as if I had just gotten onboard, but it's a 20-minute-ride.

The first thing I saw when getting off the escalator was a newspaper bill screaming 'Gardener fought for his life - got killed' at me. Odd, they didn't say anything about that on the TV news this morning smiley - erm

And during my walk to the office I felt as if I was seeing everything in much more detail - like the feeling you get of sharpened senses after a few drinks when you're no longer quite sober but not yet drunk.

Morning GDZ. smiley - smiley

Ti, some books have that effect one one.

Not a kindle, but a Sony here, which won me over due to the 12 dictionaries included, and a few other nifty widgets. I really love it.
It's so handy for travelling (even short distances), and, like Mags, I have trouble holding a heavy book for more than a few minutes. I prefer to lie on the sofa while reading to having to sit at a table.

I know that your zone is more 'arrid', Lil, but 35% is barely house-hold normal for here. When we pass the 55 and 60%, then we begin to really feel it. Especially if the temps are in the 90s and beyond. THAT becomes very draining

Forgot to say we got the smiley - dogsmiley - dog back from the farm last week and I thought those coats look a tad dull. Turns out they had had an infestation of fleas. Now we protect them from ticks and bugs with a product called Frontline, but a visit to the Vets confirmed what had happened and the bits we could see were dead flea. Anyway Smart Wee Bitch was still bothered and overnight on Monday chewed a nasty hole in herself. Anyway all on the mend now with shampoos and lotions.

On the way home, I thought I had missed my bus by about 1 minute (yes, in Sweden the buses run exactly on time) but instead the bus turned out to be late. This never happens - well, maybe twice per year (at the most) and this was the first time this year.

Usually, the bus is only late if I arrive at the bus stop well in time - if I'm even just a little bit late, the bus is *exactly* on time.

Then the bus driver took a too early exit from the motorway, which turned out to become an unexpected sigthseeing in unfamiliar suburbs. Never had that happen before, and I've been taking this bus for years.

Despite the distractions, I still managed to get so engulfed by the book that I almost missed getting off at the right bus stop.

After making some purchases in the local mall, I checked my watch and discovered I'd be about 2 minutes late for the bus home - but then I became certain that this bus would be late too. Twice in one day has *never* happened before.

And yet, it turned out this bus was indeed late, again (different line, different driver).

Small things, but yet enough to give me a feeling that the oddities happening in the book are slowly seeping out into my RL smiley - ghost

Found a tick crawling on me last night. smiley - yikes I grabbed it, ran outside and pounded it into the deck railing with the handle of a utility knife.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I did yell, "Die, die, die!" the whole time.

I felt nothing on the cats, but it is time to give them frontline again.

My gmail account got hacked. I had to submit a new password and recite a sequence of numbers to an automated phone call before I could restore access to my inbox. Something got into my account and sent spam to every single address in my inbox. I am really really really glad I don't have anything important, like a bank account, attached to that email address.

And if any of you get a spam email under my address, sorry. Go thump Google Security.

I think I'm going to abandon the account.

Titania (gone for lunch)

Had my gmail hacked earlier this year (that's when my picture blog was pulled due to 'unusual activity') but I suspect that was my own stupid fault for using that e-mail address to register as a user at a guild forum (LOTRO) and - tired of trying to keep track of different passwords - used the same password as for the gmail account.

When I first started reading 'American Gods' I thought the gods might be native, but it turns out that everyone who has ever arrived in the US still believing in a (heathen) god extended the presence of their chosen god to America.

I can't believe I didn't realise who Mr Wednesday was straight away, especially since he has a glass eye, so he's really one-eyed. The coin didn't drop until someone called him Votan smiley - doh

And when Mr Czernobog suggested a game of checkers, I immediately knew it was a bad idea, because of this scene:

During my walk from the tube station to the office this morning, someone was walking close behind me most of the way, jingling all the time. Same pace, never faster, never slower. I resisted the temptation to turn around to see who it was, so as not to destroy the illusion of being shadowed by a Norse god smiley - silly

*tries to figure out which Norse god would most likely be bedecked in jingling jewellry - maybe one of the females?*
