Hyp, that's no good. Hope someone can help you recover things.
Giving a lecture today. Oh joy. On German witch trials. Even better!

What a backlog!
I'll start with good news: none of my spinal discs are bad enough to explain my condition, and neither is the trace of spondilitis. Dr. F said my syrinx is rare because it's usually congenital and in the cervical area. He wants me to see a neurosurgeon, but not for surgery: rather he wants to find out whether the source or cause of the syringomellia can be determined.
Meanwhile he has treatments he can do and we start tomorrow. And I'm dealing with the edema the old-fashioned way -- support tights.
Apparently the only thing they do in surgery is drain the syrinx, which is a sort of cyst going down the middle of the spinal cord, interfering with hydraulics and pressing on the nerves. So they drain it and then monitor it with regular MRIs, and then if necessary do more surgery to drain it again. Rinse, repeat. Not where I want to go, especially without a support system (insurance or family).
So I'm happy.
Dust: no, I haven't yet. Speaking from New Mexico, home of the hantavirus as spread by deer mice, we've learned the hard way to wet mop any space that's been left empty for a while, especially a cabin that's been unused for the winter!
WA, I have received your notes and thank you for them!
Glad to hear that you're home safe, Hypatia, even if the storm left you some extra chores. What exactly did the computer lose? You can boot it up and use it but your files and bookmarks are gone?? A storm would wipe you clean so you could only boot it up with a CD, surely.

Glad to hear you're home safe and sound, Hyp. Sounds like you missed quite a storm. Hope the PC is recoverable.

Hospitals are fun places, not. I didnt have to sit around waiting for too long though. my vision is the same as ever and everything is as close to what passes for normal with me as can be. Have a blister or somesuch thing on the scar tissue of my left eye, so they gave me some drops to soothe it.
Glad to hear you made it home safely Hyp.
to others with appointments, and suchlike, and

Good to the Groom and his Bride this weekend! And that's great news, Lil.
My notes are flying across a series of tubes to Lil as we speak.

Ca va ce soir, Stunningfrenchie?
I have a French class tomorrow morning
(If you ignore the paintbrush and palette, he's almost French)
Haven't been for weeks and my brain's full of wee bits of useless and half remembered Mandarin

Hello Moderators?
The court case is over. Official verdict: none. It was a hung jury. You can remove the veil over my post now.
Thanks,
FG

Glad Hyp has arrived home safely, and that Little Doo Dah is still standing, more or less. Also glad that Lil has some better-than-usual news on the health front - it's always good when they can start doing something, I reckon.

Half of the problem, is finding the cause!!
Once that is done, you can start doing something about it!

well, the witch lecture went well. And I had fun. Telling undergraduates about the various methods of pre-modern torture -- they were sort of awed by it.

Hi Montana!
Hope you mentioned Matthew Hopkins to the students, and problems of 'witchfinding' going too far!

No, didn't mention Hopkins. It was a lecture specifically on German witches and their historical context. Hopkins is for someone else...next week.
