Rhynch, welcome to the atelier! It's been a long time since an Antipodean came to converse with us. Do check out A304354 if you haven't yet, it has a link to some offsite stuff as well.
Hypatia, you can send me notes any time over the weekend. Do I have a volunteer to scribe for the next thread?
I got business from the art students, but it was a busy day, and now I have a small backlog of chores from the other jobs. *heads off to the computer users room with a cup of tea and a fresh cinnamon bun*

Hi to Rynch, JulesK and Peaceandgoodwill
to those that need it...
Oh and happy birthday, Hyp
I'm delighted by the result in my constituency. The libdems won it with a swing of 17.4% I think it was Labour's seat to lose, and they definitely lost it... Well done to DD, too.

Happy birthday, Hypatia!
- it's a thickometer, which vibrates (silently, of course) when a particularly stupid or crazy person enters the library to give you and your staff time to hide behind the OPAC

Happy birthday, Hyp! *Passes the bottle of *
I got a peace rose for my mom for Mother's day. I thought it was pretty inexpensive, so then I went to an antique store and found a Charles Wysocki picture for not too much to put with it. I hope she likes it!

Happy Birthday Hypatia!! And a big to you. Firsts are hard. But you are a strong woman, and I know you'll make it through.
Welcome Ryanch! (And that looks funny, but I've lost it again)
I'm actually sort of surprised that Blair retained his seat...but was that because the alternative was worse (what, Howard, right?). Sorry, haven't been able to keep up with the UK elections as much as I would have liked.
31 summary reviews to finish this weekend, as well as editing one of my portfolio papers. Not to mention a birthday party and sleepover for D.
Oh, wow. I can't believe I forgot this, particularly since we have so many artists here. D was selected as one of 500 kids in an 8000 kid school district to have her artwork displayed at city hall! There's a big art opening Saturday afternoon for it that we are going to. Her father, who is an artist, is really disappointed he can't be there.

Well done to D then!
I was a little supprised that Blair's still Prime Minister, it didn't seem to be going too well for him from my point of veiw. Still I am glad Howard isn't in charge, for some reason his arguments have really started to bug me..
(Sorry Hypatia I did mean to say Happy Birthday earlier- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!)

MR, Blair was always going to retain his seat, because of the the way the constituency system works. A leader of a party gets given the safest seat going, the sort of place where a monkey with a rosette of the appropriate colour would get elected. Also, because a PM's seat is high-profile, there were lots of independents standing against Blair, splitting the anti-Blair vote even further.
15 candidates stood in Sedgefield, four or five is normal.
And no, Howard doesn't stand directly against Blair. Howard's seat is umm, somewhere else that escapes me right now.

Michael Howard is the MP for Folkestone & Hythe also he's currently leader of the Conservative Party (are they still officially the conservative and unionist party?)

Welcome Rhynch! I'm happy to see someone from Down Under with us as well.
Happy Birthday, Hyp! --Two heirloom tomato plants. The fruits are large, juicy, purplish and sweet. Perfect simply dressed with olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper on a platter.

I went out last night and celebrated Cinco de Mayo a little too much. Margaritas are good, but not in large amounts on a work night. Oops.

Happy Birthday, Hypatia! My gift is the loan of the gardenerbot to maintain your property while you're gone. Check the mulch when you get back -- it will contain lots of calling card fragments.
I don't suppose it bothers Bush much to know that being a staunch ally has probably cost Blair the leadership of the party.
But well done DD on such a good showing!
