Yes! A real, honest to goodness vacation. To visit Salonistas in England and attend the Chelsea Flower Show.

I've been wearing men's Levis for some time now and I have noticed some 38/30s are tighter than others. I hate that.
Yeah, yeah. I'm fat and short.

I am exhausted myself, but I don't dare try to sleep yet. It's far too early.

A couple of months ago, we had new sewage lines put in by Salt Lake County. During the process of doing this, they had to cut some of our sprinkler lines. Not a problem, they said they would fix anything they broke.
Fast forward to today. My brother and I are checking the sprinkler system so that I can begin watering my lawn. We have one broken sprinker head and a pipe that was not reattached, just buried and leaking. Now, I should just call the county and have them come and fix it but, I won't be able to do so until monday. I don't have time to wait for them to do it. My brother and I dug them up and then had pull the broken pieces of the head out of the pipe, it was pure hell to do! Still haven't finished the job, it will have to wait until tomorrow.
</another rant?

So...I went for pancakes for lunch, seeing as I'd never had American pancakes. I can safely conclude that not only are English ones more satisfying because you can roll them up with yummy stuff inside, but they also taste better.
Then we went bowling and in a typical girly manner we were really terrible but it was fun. On the third (and last) game we even had the bumpers up, which meant that Mikey managed to get several strikes through random wonderment and I ended up hitting my knee with the ball.
THEN we went to Best Buy. This is a bit like Comet or Dixons I suppose. This was purely so Mikey could poke the washing machines and I could see the double doored fridges with ice dispensers. It really was...really American.
Oh and now I'm being made a cake from a mix in a box. Apparently it's yellow flavour, which I believe to be a sort of buttery vanillia flavour really. I'll report back on how it tastes.

The yellow, my favorite, is kind of a buttery vanilla. Make sure you use chocolate frosting on it.

I have abandoned all pretense of cake snobbery. I can get two square pan cakes out of a box of mix, and give away one and a half of them, unless they're chocolate, in which case I keep a whole one for myself. Everybody wins and I have more time to paint.
We need a scribe. Or else we should abandon the notion in the face of the longer conversations.

The yellow cake is the best, but why bother to cook it? The batter (sp?) is just fabulous by itself.

I feel that way about chocolate chip cookie dough...so much better raw than cooked.
And "American" pancakes in a restaurant always suck, Kat. You need to have someone make them from scratch for you. Come on down to the LA area and I will!
Bought a new laptop today. This one is having fan issues, and I've come to realize that between exam prep, my pedagogy fellowship and beginning dissertation research, I simply *cannot* do without a computer. So I'm getting another laptop, so that if one breaks, I have the other. I know, how terribly bourgeious (sp?) of me. But when your life comes down to writing and then writing some more, a computer is vital.
(This one's having...ahem...cooling issues. I can have it on for 1 hour or less...really entertaining)

Off to spend a short weekend with friends along the M4. Will be back tomorrow morning, when I hope to catch up with the backlog.

Wondering if the snow will last till MC wakes up so she can see it...
I've been thinking about baking a cake for a while, might get round to doing so this weekend, then again, might not! Still it's satisfying to be able to make the cake without using a box of mix.
Other jobs this weekend involve the garden. Something I'm not looking forward to given the weather forecast (rain, rain and more rain). We need to move the compost heap, put the black plasic dalek composter in the place and then fill the dalek up. Nicer things to do will involve sowing more seeds.

Oi EVERYONE Pay Attention To Lil!
Will anyone scribe or should we forget scribing in the face of 2000 post threads?

Sol Posted Apr 16, 2005
I can't scribe this thread. I'm being paranoid about taking on extra commitments in case the house buying process goes belly up and I have to scramble. And if it doesn't, I confidently predict a period of internet downtime while I move. Both of these possible futures should coincide nicely with this thread. Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
I managed to get work to agree with my going away to freelance in Russia for six weeks in October. Splendid. I wanted to go back this year and now I can get someone else to pay me for the privalage of sorting out my visa and flights and whathaveyou. This should also facilitate job hunting as, obviously, I will now find a job which means I can't go very quickly...
As a coda to the what to call women thing from earlier, I've just realised that having a one letter difference in my surname to B means that unless I tell them different, everyone sends letters to Mr B His Name and Mrs S My Name. *Triumphant cackle* I think I'll forget to mention that the correct address would be Mr and Mrs B His name, eh?
I've also forgotton what else I was going to say...

I can't scribe - I really shouldn't post from work at all.
