I don't recall that being mentioned Irv.
We had snow today, I hate snow.
Good night all.

GDZ, if you hate snow, you might want to think about getting out of Utah. Just sayin!
I'm grading papers. And thus far, they're dreadful.

I know that there's a bias against Texas, but really Austin is a lovely place - both to live and to thaw out. Just a thought, GDZ.

Not like it was real snow or anything. Just a wee dusting.
I just got home from seeing Milk. It's an independant film about Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man elected to major US public office, later assassinated by a former politician colleague. It was a rather good film, it has my recommendation.

Morning all!
My full stop key has finally given up the ghost entirely, so everything I say has to be very exciting!
The doctor gave me new pills to try and prevent the migraines! I already have triptans to take wehen they happen! My supervisor was very understanding!
How are you all?

Not bad thank you Runescribe. Go those drugs!
I joined a couple of dots at the weekend and realised that I was about to move out of IT and into another part of t'Behemoth *and that now is SO not the time to do that*.
One can't second-guess anything in this life, but I do think that IT will be a safer department than some for the next couple of years while t'Behemoth is discombobulated. So moving out of it into a generic business support area is just plain stupid, no matter how alluring the work.
I'm having a conversation with my line manager this afternoon to see if we can do it on a secondment basis rather than as a permanent move. This may mean I end up in a situation where no-one will pay for my MSc though...
Lil, I can never get myself together to do chrimbo decs. I bought some lights this year. I keep on saying to myself that it's time to get them up and looking festive. I've never really got it together for Christmas since Dad died, but that was in 1995. I really ought to get my arse into gear about it.
I told a colleague "I'm doing Christmas-lite this year". In fact it's a wonder I'm doing Christmas at all.

Be careful Ben. My IT buddy who works for t' has just been sidelined rather than make him redundant. They are just ignoring him, he's off with stress and they just don't give a toss, trying to wear him down physcologically. It ammounts to bullying imo.

Slips back and whips away and adjusts the aiches, pyschologically.

I've come to the conclusion that nowhere is safe these days, Ben.
I'm doing cards this year, largely because I've not seen a bunch of folks for a very long time, being that I'm sort of playing ostrich, what with trying to finish my doctorate and all...

I'm having it with Christmas cards they way Ben has it with insurance papers: tiptoes around and hopes nobody will discover that it's high time for them. Yet, happy when they're done.
And I should know better than hope for forgetfulness - Mrs SG V this year, as every year, came home the other day and announced that she now had bought stamps, including the extra charity Christmas ones...
I've been fighting with my w**k group's quarterly report (yep, we're a wee bit off as our year starts with Sep) since Friday. My boss was out and my colleague's on paternaty leave - so I got a kind request if I could do the first write up of the whole thing. It's like oatmeal - rather heavy and boring but very nourishing and good for you once it's done... I did actually get some insights into some of the areas that I don't manage but have to be able to back up on.
The fight was more the PC - Friday I must have done 6 restarts and today I got first a black screen then one of the dreaded blue ones. And just for trying to switch windows to see my calendar
Must go make !

Today I think i can actually function as a mostly human being. Yesterday it wasn't like that at all. So I'm in work and it seems that about half the office is either ill and in work or ill and at home.
Sounds like you got yourself something useful from the doctors visit.
MR, how is the doctoral thesis writing going? From seeing friends and other colleagues go through with it, it's very hard work. I'm sure you'll get to the end ok though

* wonders if Irv will elaborate on his weekend as interested people want to know if it was or
or even
Good that the insurance company gave in without a whimper, Ben. It would be great if you managed to find a match for the relict.
I counted three unco-operative computers in the last LED. I suspect mine is also thinking about thowing a tantrum but it better just not bother because a replacement is not on the cards at the moment.
Lil, I haven't been able to get into the Christmas spirit properly for a number of years. I go through the motions and end up enjoying the actual day but can't get interested in the peripheral goings-on. It was different when the children were small; one somehow got caught up in their sense of wonderment, seeing only the not the tackiness.
These days my puritanical streak comes to the fore and I jist canna be deein' wi' it.
IIEM - may I have a no-cal, double shot cappuchino with extra choccy bits, s'il tu plait.

My PC at home is rather like me. Slow to get going, creeky, definately carting around a lot of extra weight that doesn't help either the speed or the creekiness, but still capable of doing the job. If only a pair of new hips and loosing a few stone was as easy to order as new box from Boxworld or something [big sigh smiley]

I am a little surprised to find myself in the holiday spirit this year. #2 and I got out the decorations last weekend the house is looking quite cheery both inside and out. I did Christmas cards after having skipped that chore the past 2 years. I had photo cards made of the girls and me and they were posted yesterday. For those folks that didn't know our family status, I wrote a clever sentence on the back confirming that Mr M was 'Out of the Picture'. This weekend, #2 and I will go to the tree farm and get ourselves an 8 foot tall white pine.
Oh, and I believe that it is impossible to bully Ben. If an employer wants to get rid of her, they will have to do it outright.
