Mrs Zen

I've booked myself the morning off because getting up and into work on time after a Bristol Sunday is just too difficult.

My brain's still fizzing with the weekend. smiley - smiley It's good to be studying again, and fun to be in a cross-over discipline where Quants and Post-Modernists make like monks at a holy shrine.

Was I the only person watching that with Terry Pratchett sitting in the next chair?

About house-names - Nancy Mitford or someone similar used to distinguish between houses with names and houses with numbers on the basis that houses with numbers are urban or sub-urban and therefore dreadfully non-U.

In Gloucestershire I lived in a new house but it had a name *because the road didn't*. There was nothing to number. I remember frustrating the girl from the Council who insisted there had to be a street name.

Right ho, great scribing all.
I would much rather be back home instead of here at work, especially as the train this morning was very crowded (at least one of the previous trains hadn't turned up).
At some point soon I'll need to have a go at sweeping the chimney (I borrowed a brush from a friend yesterday) and see if I can get it done ok and any blockage removed - we know that we've had brids nesting up there. If I can then it'll save having to wait till jan for a professional sweep and we can start using the wood burner again and have a very warm house.

* wonders about Witty's toes

If I fall heir to the Blue Trews in this conversation, No3 will be forced to wear them since he's responsible for my lateness in joining you.
We're still struggling a bit with the new technology here. I belatedly realised that a wireless adapter is needed, in order that the old machine can be used upstairs, and have been twice round the gasworks to find a good deal.

Mr T went back to China yesterday smiley - sadface
Never mind, only six weeks until he's home for Christmas.

On the topic of housenames - the reason we refer to chez T as The Towers is because it used to be a bungalow.

Hope you recover soon from the M6 induced headache, Ben.

Lofty, that's 95Xth, not 95th. The count is done in Hexadecimal (base 16).

David B - Singing Librarian Owl

Great scribing, everyone!

Titanic was indeed mentioned on the Elaine Paige show on Sunday (though, as noted by Bea, Paul O'Grady was sitting in). One of the committee had phoned in to give it a plug and wish everyone many broken legs in fine showbiz tradition.

We had the band call on Sunday, and the orchestra are hot, hot hot! Best orchestra I've ever known to play in the pit for a show I've done. So fantastic. smiley - somersault

Lil, hope you don't mind me plugging... Any Kent-based Salonistas (and there are quite a few, I know!), feel free to come along this week and watch it. Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, Wednesday to Saturday (with matinees on Thurs and Sat). We could do with selling a few more tickets! And if you hang around the stage door, I could put a face to a name. Besides, how many people can say they've seen a librarian owl sing a duet about wireless telegraphy? smiley - winkeye

95X is actually 149 in decimal. smiley - smiley

Fortunately, my Monday was yesterday, so I feel a bit perkier about the coming day. Fewer tourists, more opportunity to work on other stuff.

I just realized I didn't have any caffeine at all yesterday. No tea, no coffee, no soda, no chocolate. And I'm still alive.

How did that happen? smiley - yikes

Lincoln County also had its first snow, in Ruidoso and up on the hills. Just rain here in Lincoln, but I caught a double rainbow on camera at a little after 8 am. Very intense colors!
