I agree with Ben--walnuts taste bitter to me (Mom didn't like them either, so for years I didn't know divinity normally has walnuts in it) and pecans always taste rancid to me

Divnity is (iirc) mostly air and sugar... *googles* Ah, it's a type of meringue. Teeth-rottingly sweet.

Santra.
Pecans are glorious - and there is a pecan orchard only half an hour or so away, so I could practically swim in them if I wanted!
Divinity is, well, divine and I wish I could make it. As it is, I just pick some up at the grocer's on occassion and throw all diets to the wind.
*sips *

My grandma used to make divinity, fudge, peanut butter fudge, and peanut brittle every Christmas (Hey, just because I said divinity's teeth-rotteningly sweet doesn't mean I didn't love it) She'd also make other stuff, but those 4 were constants.

Zuchini is one of my favorite vegetables. I've cooked it in all sorts of ways and made pickles with it.
Welcome to lostmonalisa and theearthguide. *waves*
It would be lovely for Munchkin to come back to h2g2. I miss him.
The library is holding a book sale this week with lots of discarded items. We aren't talking about genuine collectibles or museum quality manuscripts. Almost everything ever printed is just paper and ink, not holy relics. I don't have enough shelf space to keep items no one ever checks out. If your bookcases are overflowing, then it's logical to cull out those items you won't ever read again. I also want to add those items you bought 10 years ago and still haven't read. You all know you have some of those. I believe in passing books along to people who will actually read them.
Ooooooooh. New car, Mr.D. I'd like a new car.
Santra, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's diagnosis. My father had Alzheimers, so I know what you're facing. We're all here to listen.
I hope you're feeling better. And also Lil and all others under the weather, stressed out and dissertating.

Oh. My divinity always weeps. I've never quite gotten the knack of it. Perfectly made divinity is...well...divine.
Love both walnuts, both black and English, and pecans. Almonds, filberts, hickory nuts, macadamians. I just love nuts. That's why I hang around here.

Yep. Black walnuts. http://www.black-walnuts.com/ I have a tree in my back yard. Also a native pecan. They have smaller nuts than the papershell pecans, but the flavor is better.

So my hairdresser is telling me how techno-illiterate his uncle is. "I tried to send him some pictures," sez hairdresser, "but somehow they must have gone to Matt Damon."
"What?" I sez.
"Yeah," sez hairdresser. "They came back from Matt Damon. Isn't that amazing?"
A little probing revealed that the returner of the rejected email was actually Mail Daemon...

oh, that's funny!
I like nuts, too. Although walnuts have to be handled carefully...they go rotten fast. That's why you store them in the freezer.
I was called a bad mother yesterday for my decision to allow D to live with my folks for a year so she could attend the art school. The exact phrasing escapes me, but it was something along the lines of "oh, I could never let my child live with someone else at her age...I would consider that derelict parenting!"
At least I didn't punch her, which is what I wanted to do.

She needed punched, MR. D is safe, with people who love her. And she is being given an opportunity that she wouldn't have in Irvine. You have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about.

Then my mom was a derelict parent for having me move with my dad my freshman year, just because my stepmom could get me on her insurance and take care of my 14mm overbite
