Ooh, I missed most of the literature discussion, but since when does that dissuade any of us? I like Dickens, but prefer Wilkie Collins, which always seems a slightly naughty literary position to hold. Hardy - blah, far too depressing to even bother appreciating. Austen was a comic genius, and I enjoyed the Brontiful Jane Eyre, even if she was stupid to marry him (but she'd have been stupid to marry the other bloke as well). Henry James I can take or leave, and I liked Catcher in the Rye in my late teens but no longer care for it.
The beeping would drive me madder than ever!

Ben, I'm getting rid of things I've hauled through 4 moves. Really, when I was 16, I coveted that wonderful brown leather jacket. But I've not worn it in some 10 years, it's all cut up and beat up and terribly heavy...and really, am I going to wear it ever again? No. So why do I still have it some 20+ years later?!
Amazing, really, how much space one has when one culls one's accumulated "stuff"!

Arrrgh! Have got Bob Marley's Jammin' stuck in my head and can't get rid of it!
It is there because tonight's job is to make a batch of raspberry jam from the berries I've got from my allotment and I jokingly sang a bit of it to J while I was hunting out old jars to put it in. Gah! How to get rid of it?!

I'm afraid that the only way to get one annoying song out of one's head is to think of another equally annoying song. Oh, and thanks. now Bob Marley's Jammin is in my head. sigh.

Was half hoping that if I infected somebody else with my earworm, it might leave me alone - but no luck!
Hope you like Jammin' too

I'm feeling marginally better, so am going to go into work now instead of at noon. We're having a book sale starting tomorrow. There is too much work to do today for me to be self-indulgent.
Weneed a beep smiley for Tod.

While i do like the results of jammin, i'm afraid that i am not a jammer myself.

The rowans are so fecund this year that I want to make rowan jelly. Heaven knows when I'd use it - I scarecely eat meat these days, and I've lost or given away my WI Book of Jams and Jellies and my jam thermometer.
Hmmm. It's at times like this you need the internet...
It just seems WRONG to see all those fruit and not boil them up with unfeasable amounts of sugar.

Crap. Now *I've* got Jammin' stuck in my head. Thanks, Kelli. I'm going to have a scoop of the Salon's Vendetta ice cream and put the Eagles' "One of These Nights" into yours.
Is that a new person I spy? Welcome, lostmonlisa!

Hello lostmonalisa
Which part of Canada do you hail from?
Did someone mention Hardy?

I'll see your glut of rowanberries, Ben - and raise you a couple of trees worth of apples. I really should be making chutney or summat.
I'm just about up to date with the runner beans and green beans in both my own and my holidaying neighbours gardens. Can hardly get the freezer door shut, though.

[Irv -- 99% sure that the lyrics to "Jammin'" were entirely ad-libed during an actual jam session]

Kelli, I always find the best way to exorcise an earworm is to actually listen to the song, closely followed by a favourite song.
Damn these fingernails, I've had to correct almost every word in this post I'll be buggared if I'm going to sit for 10mins with each nail in acetone though, they can fall off at will. (poor Will)
I'm sure there was something else...Oh aye, annoying beeping sounds. Tod, my home phone did just that every 10mins all night the other day (the one in the bedroom) I was just too tired to unplug the darned thing.
I've just got the brambles left - they seem to ripening at differing rates so I think I'll have to freeze them for use at a later date.

If the earworm gets really bad, I can arrange to have a 5-year-old sing to you, Kelli *remembers Kelli's isn't a phone number she has* Er, never mind...
Faith got to pick blackberries at a friend's house for the first time the other day--and I wish I'd had a camera with me. She managed to get blackberry juice between her eyes (as well as the obvious all-around-the-mouth)

I have a friend who actually likes "MacArthur Park"! *starts humming "Stir It Up" in order to exorcise Jammin'*
Wilkie Collins! I think The Moonstone is a great novel.
Hallo lostmonalisa, welcome to the Atelier. None of the offsite links work at the moment because I'm right in the middle of shifting to a new domain name, but you can certainly have a look at the rest of A304354 and get a good idea of where you are. Please make yourself at home.
I'm at work, although my tummy is still a bit sore.

MR, you are welcome to come to Austin and help me clean things out when you're done with your own. I am horrible at it myself because I always get wrapped up in the stories associated with each piece and then I can never toss anything.
I've heard good thing about Wilkie Collins in the past. Now with the rousing support here, I know what to look for the next time I'm at a book store.

Welcome, lostmonalisa
That beep would have me up the wall in no time flat. And one going on in the night would have me in the morning - one thing that I am really susceptible to at night is odd rythmic sounds. No ticking alarm clocks around me, please .
I still vividly remember once I helped a high school friend taking care of a house (we were a few friends who "volunteered" to stay over for a day or two so that she didn't have to be all alone in a big house). The room that I crashed and made mine had one of these old-fashioned ticking monsters. After having tried burying it under umpteen pillows, blankets and other soft whathaveyous, I ended up carrying to the opposite end of the house. H.C. Andersen fairy-tale analogue anyone?
