and sympathy for Hyp and Ben and Lil and anyone else feeling a little sickly.
The dissertation and I have reached a compromise. I will stop telling everyone that it's the most boring thing I've ever done in my life and it'll stop being so colossally boring.
It's lik esmashing my head on a wall. It's going to be SO nice when I stop.

"That would be funny if the author hadn't lost her job. "
Yes, presumably it wouldn't be difficult to tell who "the naked patron" and "Mr Three Hats" were.

I'm not feeling ill, thank you, Ag. Just bored. Which is a bit of a luxury really. And I'm always grateful for
I'm following your pain with your dissertation very nervously. If I can get t'employer to stump up the cash it's conceivable I could be doing mine next summer.

Ben - make extremely sure that you a) dissertate on something that fascinates you, b) that you do all your research well in advance for it and c) do not fall severely ill and miss a month of work and study in the run-up to write up. Even if everyone is nice as pie about it, getting back into gear again will half-kill you. Remember to watch frivolous telly once a week and to eat vegetables.
And that's Ag's dissertation survival guide.
I've got one of my main sections in a flipping twist. All the bits on durable URLS have got muddled up with the stuff on reliability of sources. They're supposed to be two different sections. Must not write when tired. Argh argh argh.

to those under the weather or under dissertations
Yes, it's a bit hectic here sometimes
But I now have a working network attached storage thingy (..should likely be in the computer study) that apparently does comply and right now automagically backs up the family's documents and will keep on doing so

Dang! I knew the reason I didn't finish my Ph.D. was because of too few vegetables!
There's something terribly wrong with that librarian story, as in something missing in the details. Why would they possibly fire someone for exposing antisocial and illegal behavior? It doesn't make any sense.

Because the ones doing the firing are those engaging in such behaviors? Just a thought!
I didn't get to bed until 9:30 this morning (just didn't feel tired) and then woke up at 2. I've given up trying to have a regular sleep schedule, apparently. But I had a full day of plans today, which my BLEEPING back isn't letting me do. Dangit.

I spent most of the night flopping around with my heart hammering and my back hurting... don't know what's up with that, but I got about three hours at most. Survivable, certainly, but so very unlike me.

My mother seems under the impression that, as a librarian, she has a duty to protect the patrons' privacy. Failing to disguise the patrons when writing this book could be seen as a dereliction of this duty.

I am stuck in a room with an alarm panel that has developed a fault .It goes BEEP very loudly every 15 seconds . I will hear it go BEEP 2640 times before I can go home . Oh yes and in common with a few other salonistas I have a cold and am feeling a bit .

There must be something in the salon that is attacking backs - mine went into spasms just a few minutes ago.

Poor Tod! That sounds like possibly the worst way I can think of spending 11 hours. Well... I can think of worse ways, but I'm not sure I'd survive them for 11 hours.

I was just about to say the same thing...that would make me insane! Tod, can you pull the plug on it?!
Well, I don't know what's come over me, but I've been unloading today. So far, I've packed up five standard sized trash bags with clothes, shoes, and tupperware. Do I REALLY need twenty coffee cups...especially given that I don't actually DRINK coffee? I guess not. So maybe getting rid of them might not be a bad idea, eh?

Mrs Zen Posted Aug 26, 2008
That must feel really good, MR. I so rarely have the strength to do any serious unloading, but I always feel wonderful when I have.

Back to work after a lazy and relaxing Ban Collie Day weekend. Two trips into Yorkshire for us - Leeds on Saturday afternoon and evening and then Harrogate yesterday. Very genteel is Harrogate. Not sure I'd be keen on taking the waters mind it's got a big dose of sulphur in it judging from the smell.

Bagpuss Posted Aug 26, 2008
I think the sulphur is the entire point, Phil.

Mmm. But "From Hell, Hull and Harrogate, good Lord deliver us" doesn't have quite the same ring.
