thank you all for the lovely welcome. I suppose i should have asked to join all of you lovely people, but i do have a habit of insinuating myself into things, before anyone notices i'm there.

Well, hi there!
I've gotten five trashbags of stuff now, as well as a box of glassware and even (gasp) some books. I also boxed up most of my books. I also culled the various lotions and potions in the bathroom.
Really, I don't know what's come over me, but if you happen to see me, let me know, would you?

lml (as you will now be known ), all good people are welcome here. Introductions are not really necessary - we will learn *all* we need to about you soon enough

Hello lml!
It sounds like I should read some Wilkie Collins. Actually, I have read one of his - The Moonstone. I liked it, I think.

Just to let you all know I'm currently in internet access-free land, but will be back next week, and I'll backlog dive then.

Hi lostmonalisa!
Uh - ah - there was a thing or two in the backlog that I wanted to comment... uh....
So glad the Olympics are over and done with so that I no longer have to try and avoid it...
It took me 20+ years to realise I *didn't* have to keep all the books I've ever owned - that I just needed to keep the books I liked and the books I'd like to re-read some day.
I don't know - it was probably the wanna-be-librarian in me that protested against the idea of getting rid of *any* books - or maybe not...

The only books I got rid of were the "how to fix your marriage" books and the baby-care books. The first, well, sorta pointless, and the second, my "baby" is 12...I think I'm good.

I never get rid of any books, no matter how much I didnt like them. I love having lots of books around me - it shows I read

STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring ) Posted Aug 26, 2008
The only things I would recomend keeping are things like clothes and toys, photos, etc from your childhood as sadly my parents threw all my much loved toys away as clearing out loft and you never know how much you miss them until they have gone, I have a photo of me looking about 5 in a school Christmas play and that is it. There is a gap until about 19 and would give anything to have those soft toys again!

Hi lostmonalisa ,
Well back for another 11 hours , no annoying beep this evening . I tried allsorts last night , cellotape over the speaker hole , plastic spoon wedged in the silence button with a first aid box and of course my first course of action , hitting and swearing at it . none of which worked . My cold has become full blown man-flu and I am feeling pretty wretched
Hot toddies for all that need them .
Today the phone box says 'nothing' [ August ] ......

Given that there are 6 full floor to ceiling bookcases in my house full of books, I'm in no danger of looking like a book slacker, that's for sure.

I could poke at him to see if he'll head back over--or, since LJ lets you comment without being a member, folks could blame me for sending them over

I don't know if we are "members" per se; we're just a bunch of folks who like to chat.

Oh, and I only have two floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. And they don't groan. I'm obsessive about getting rid of stuff. NOW.

We do need to get the good Dr Munchers back. I comment on his LJ occasionally, but it's not the same.
