Hello, hnicky! What was the artistic vision behind performing the Taming of the Shrew in wetsuits, Amy? smiley - erm That sounds like a pretty interesting version of the play. I was lucky enough to see King Lear on stage with Robert Donat in the title role. I was in high school at the time and the play was part of a field trip for my English literature class. Back at school our class performed Macbeth...and guess who played Lady Macbeth.

I tend to just say "Lil's". But that's me.

Oh, on Shakespeare. For the tragedies, I personally love Lear. But for the comedies, I'm never sure if it's As You Like It or Taming of the Shrew. There are some wonderful zingers in Shrew, but the sexism, and her speech at the end about your husband is your lord and blah blah blah always puts me off.

As for poetry, yikes. I love so many single poems of various poets, but hands down favorite poet? T.S. Eliot. His imagery is simply stunning.

I found this place through the list of clubs and organizations at the post. Thanks, by a surprising set of circumstances, to a chance meeting with Titania.

I should scribe some day. It'd be good for me. Get me into the habit.

I missed the inaugural address yesterday. Stupid classes.smiley - sadface

And I have loved e e cummings all my life.

Hnicky, welcome to the atelier! Witty has told you the necessary about understanding this place, by reading through A304354 and following the link to the offsite stuff.

Conversations last for about a thousand posts, unless they don't: this one will very likely persist through the weekend, because there's this thing called the First-to-the-Forum race and it's not sporting of me to hold it on Saturday or Sunday.

There's a main conversation, this one taking place in the salon area, which is numbered in hex. Then there are other conversations going on in other parts of the atelier (see the graphic that is linked to from A304354) which you can join or not depending on whether you're interested in the topic being discussed. We have geeks in the computer lab, occultists in the conservatory, and US-politics-mavens in our brand new fern bar over in the gallery area. And I think we'll rejoin the global politics thread because Santra has mentioned that Danish elections are coming up and I'm hoping he'll tell us about the issues.

We have a hot tub and several maidbots, plus guest rooms. And amazing landlords.

I can't remember why, but I've been going through the history of the Atelier. Fascinating. have no idea why I started doing that. It's taken me HOURS. I'll just go wash and then, Matina, please could I have a smiley - tea?

Okay, surreal moment. I was streching, and I looked at my hands, and they were my mother's hands. They seemed momentarily detached from me.

And occasionally, when I look in the mirror, I don't recognize the person staring back at me. My first thought is "who the hell is that? She looks old." And then I realize it's me, and that's what I look like. Old. Well, older.

Am I just weird, or do we all have moments like that?

MR, aging is so gradual that I think we tend to just edit our self-image subconsciously, incrementally. I've had some terrible shocks when I've caught sight of myself getting out of the bath...

Every now and then I see my mother's face. I'm older now than she was when she died, so I suppose my grandmother's face will be showing up next.

Missed it too, Penny.

And speaking of missing things, I've just realized that this upcoming Star Wars will be my last chance to go to one of those midnight openings. I'd better do it.

This talk of Shakespeare reminds me of when my English teacher in highschool made the mistake of saying that our groups could do "anything" and that it was a multi-genre project.

Naturally, I teamed with a friend and we set Sonnet #116 (I think) to a Vaudeville tune, based on my theory that you could do so with any Shakespearian sonnet. Interrupted people two class rooms away we did.

When in the chronicles of wasted time,
I see descriptions of the fairest white...

or something like that....

I will never see my mother looking back at me in the mirror only because she and I look nothing alike. I take after my father. However, I look just like *both* of my grandmothers in their younger years, even though I'm way more of an S (family name) than a N (other family name). smiley - weird

The aging process is visible in one area on my person--I'm going rapidly gray at the temples. You can see it when I pull my hair back into a ponytail or up into a barrette.

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.")

I'm in the same boat Affy, last chance to see a midnight showing. The problem with this one is the opening day is also C's birthday. I don't think I can handle seeing the midnight show, getting about 2 hours sleep and then getting the kids to daycare/going to work.

Lil, I think you are conspiring against me. Wait til monday to start the new thread? The day I know I will be away from my puter! smiley - laugh

I wear glasses almost all of the time, but occasionally I like to wear contacts. Like when I am getting my hair done and I want to see what the stylist is doing. So I have daily wear contacts that I can use for that purpose but they are only good for distance. I asked my optometrist yesterday what the scoop is on bifocal contacts and, unfortunately, I am not a good candidate. He suggested that I have one contact prescribed for reading and the other for distance. We tried it in the office and I thought it was terrible as no matter what you are looking it you are always making a compromise.

So I said that I would continue with the distance prescription and pop on reading glasses when I need them. He said that was fine, as long as I wasn't concerned that it could broadcast my age. smiley - laugh

Funny thing is, it conveys wisdom, not age, to me.

Goodness, reading glasses 'broadcast one's age'? But I've been wearing glasses for reading since I was 14! (I'm astigmatic as well as short-sighted). Do my current glasses shout 'nearly 30!' very loudly then?

I started wearing glasses when I was nine (I think) but don't have contacts, event though I play lacrosse. Too much hassle when like me you can forget to take tablets!
