To F! To a well lived life!
redpeckham, some of my best friends are here, they have enriched my life in ways too numerous to count and I have met less than a handful of them in "real life"! Yes, we are quite serious but, we have our fun too. If you look through previous threads you will see Subject Name games and silly tests (what's your smurf name, what's your pirate name, etc.) If you want to be part of our discussions, both serious and silly, you are more welcome but please, don't be a troll.

sorry if I've been a bit flippant - I do understand grief - and personally I find it hard

I hope that one day I will get to experience a loving marriage like theirs.
The Freddie bowtwang hit me this morning. To recap: while eating dinner Saturday night I crunched down on something hard. I spit it out and found what I thought was one of my fillings. I made an appointment with my dentist and went in first thing this morning. Dr. Tim took one look in my mouth and said "That wasn't your filling, that was your tooth!" Apparently a quarter of my upper rear molar just dropped out of my mouth. But it was his follow-up that caused me to hear that bowtwang in my head: "Looks like we need a crown!". Gah! My first crown. They took X-rays and will submit them and the treatment plan to my insurance company. I won't be getting my crown until after the first of the year--in the meantime, he put in a temporary filling. After I pay my $50 deductible to my insurance company I have to fork over 50% of the crown's cost. This means I will be out $450 - $500. Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhh!

And in case anyone doesn't know, here's a page about my new friend, the dental crown:

redpeckham, you really are welcome here. But with so many members and so much going on, sometimes you have to just ride with us for a while before you get a sense of it. That's why our page goes on and on. And have you checked the offsite link to the backstory and floorplan and all yet?
I'm back from cleaning as much snow off the car as I could, and trundling up to the post office in 4wheeldrive only to discover that there probably won't be mail today. Route 70 is closed through the Mescalero res (our mail comes up from Alamogordo) all the way to Roswell! And snow is expected to continue pretty steadily through Friday.
So the car is put away in the garage, and the turkey bones continue to boil down in a melange of onions, garlic, carrots, celery and herbs. I will have the best gravy in Lincoln County.

Balloons purchased, (did I say that already?) and I finish early today, so that I can not do too many hours before lunchtime tomorrow.
I am finally looking forward to breaking up for the Hols.
Hi redpeckham. This group forms a major support group for many of the people here. It IS a friendly group, but it has also taken time to shake down together, so folks here know each other pretty well. People *do* join us, Z and Teuchter joined us this year, as did KA and others, so it does work. I count the salonistas as being some of my best friends in the world, and value the fact that I can get conversations here that I cannot get in RL.
You are very welcome to join us, but please don't try to change us. What we have here is unique in our lives, and each of us values it immensely.
Ben

Yes Lil, it's my first crown. I've been very lucky so far--no root canals, no crowns, no bridges or partials--because everyone else on both sides of my family has terrible, terrible teeth. I'm chalking my up to being a milk junkie.

Sorry. Can't have alcohol for a bit.
To F, who, by all indications, lived a full and happy life with Hypatia, a woman of substance, wit, and love. I hope to have a marriage like that one day myself.
Gods, as much as I don't want to, I have to go to Walmart and get some yarn. I forgot that I had long ago promised someone a scarf for Xmas. Ah, well, at least it's an easy one to make.
Here's to all of you and to the friendship we have discovered here.
I would like to suggest that at this time, we also remember those researchers who are in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nice toast Z
I "like" (of that's the right word) the funeral/wake combination, I have without fail always learned something amazingly interesting and new about the person concerned....
An uncle who turned out to have the same favourite album as me, the story of my Great Gran, who as chair of the local village fete committee had to award most of the prizes to herself in the baking/jam/veg competitions after blind judging
The thing is, it's wonderful to celebrate the life of the lost one, and to be there for those who are left

Here's to those near and dear to us who are not as near as we might like.
*And again*
Here's to a lovely flock of balloons.
red, I have to tell ya. This group of people lets me show up. How can a group that allows my presence claim to be difficult to get into? Have you seen the laboratory that I run downstairs? And up here sometimes?
For those of you asking if the mystery-researcher-inthe-same-library-as-me actually happened,....well, truth be told, probably not. The odds are against it.
For those suggesting that I've just left a cookie on a computer, I'd like to remind them of the intense paranoia that flows through my veins, making it impossible for me to even say my real name while I'm here in the Atelier, among some of the best friends that a weirdo like me could ever hope to have.
For those asking why I don't just delete the journal entry....um....you know, for being an H2G2 Old-Timer, I must not know a lot about journals. You can delete those now? Since when?

redpeckham, if this group is hard to get into for you then I'm not sure that you're trying.
I mean, I'm relatively new here, and I've barely made any effort at all to "fit in" aside from reading and responding to the posts. While I don't feel "in", per se, I certainly don't feel "out". I'm sure that "in-ness" is just a matter of time.
