Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

Just a quick post before I turn the computer off -- I think I have a case of hyphema, but it will be up to the doctor to confirm -- some kind of hemhorrage in the right eye. Not painful, and I haven't the faintest idea how it's happened.

Imagine dropping an eyedropper drop of iodine into a glass of water, how the fluid makes strings of color as it spreads out. That's what I have happening intermittently in one eye. Enormously distracting, and frightening too.

The blood resorbs -- my eye isn't turning red, and nobody else can see it when they look at me -- but I Don't Like It. I'm not going to use the computer because the artifacts are particularly visible against the light of the screen.

smiley - erm

These jokes are absolutely terrible. smiley - winkeye

I wish you the best with the eye, Lil. For years, I have been bothered by 'floaters', those teeny bits of the back-wall that let go. And against light backdrops or sunny days, look like little buzzing buggies. Apparently it's a genetic thing, as all the men in my family suffer them, one brother to the point that sizeable pieces dislodging, and needing laser surgery to repair.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Ooh, I get those! I remember when I was little I used to pretend they were various animals and vehicles depending on what shape they were...

Ugh, floaters. They seem to be worse when stressed or tired - why is that?

Lil, I knew someone who got that in one eye, it seems it was caused by coughing believe it or not.
.
Those in USA may not get the jokes if Christmas Crackers aren't used there, they always have a very bad joke in the UK, it is a tradition and the worse the joke the better!

Imagine a sunny day, and a few really bad sneezes ... The sparkles are EVERYWHERE. It's really very pretty, but distracting.

Sad to hear about Benazir Bhutto earlier a real shame for Pakistan, and for their bid for democracy.

I've been getting a lot of hits since I posted on my blog about it as the news was breaking, including my first ever from Iran. smiley - yikes

It's terrible news in the world today. I hope this doesn't lead to increased violence, rioting or something much worse in Pakistan.

::I think I have a case of hyphema::

Lil! One of my coworkers had that two weeks ago. She sneezed particularly violently and her left eyeball immediately hemorraghed. She said she felt a sharp pain when it happened and then a dull pain for days afterward until it healed. It looked like she had pink eye. smiley - weird

I've had floaters for years. I always thought they were normal!

My optometrist tells me floaters are normal and will increase with age. He didn't mention anything about zapping them with lasers. I've had them for a while, but only really noticed them when he asked me about them. Until this year that is, now they seem to be a little more prominent. I wonder if I have to have them zapped if they could throw in some lasik surgery as well. smiley - geek

The laser necessity was a very sizeable patch detaching over-night. And leaving a fuzzy black-spot of about 5% of his left eye view.

They had to drain the eye, laser spot-weld the bit back, and re-load with a temporary oil-fill. Once healing was well underway, the temporary oil was drained, and natural optic fluids returned. And in every step, the cornea was lifted away for in's and out's. And just as the left eye was clearing and focusing? His right eye let go a larger patch. So it all began again ... Nearly 10 months of variations of blindness.

Detached retina is not much fun. A hyphema is not a lot of laughs either but affects the very front part of the eye.
Hope yours resolves very soon, Lil.

Can any Ukians remember a comic strip about wee people who live inside people's bodies and make everything work?
It may have been called The Numbskulls?

For a moment I was considering what you discussed as 'floaters' - "I've had them for a while"... mmmm, yes... smiley - silly

Agree, bad news from Pakistan. Danish TV hs the more fundamentalist muslim groups as primary suspects as Bhutto had announced intentions to (continuing) reduce their influence. And, she was a woman - women state leaders aren't quite the norm in those circles.

Yup was the numbskulls.. always been told floaters are a sign of a healthy diet..

Still got a large-ish jelly type lump in corner of one eye...did almost, have an appointment ten or so years ago to have it scraped out, but never made it, been on the waiting list to have tonsils out for over thirty years..

Often used to lie on back in summer and squint at the floaters..

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.")

I've had floaters for many a year, thought they were associated with my astigmatism.

I read the news about Bhutto on fark this morning, very sad, very frightening.
