We didn't get enough snow to knock out the power again. yay!!!!!
I hope you all have a nice what's left of your weekends. I'm a tad stressed at the moment, but trust that I'll survive until Her Crankiness is able to go back home. I've gotten through worse than this. Must have done.

Blimey, I've just realised Christmas is barely a week away. I'd better get some presents sorted and cards posted.

Just a medium sized sack of cash for me, BagPuss ... (Canadian currency, if you don't mind. It's strong these days)

I'd echo what everyone's already said about bravery, LP.
I hope your name zooms up the waiting list and you can get the whole business over and done with, without having too long to anticipate
Speaking of cardiac matters. My friend, who teaches dental nurses, had a brilliant way of teaching cardiac circulation. She put four seats in a square, with the backs at different angles to each other, to represent the four chambers of the heart. She then sat a student on each seat - and designated other students the major vessels and lungs. Then she had them passing blue or red balls to each other, to represent deoxygenated and oxygenated blood. Eh!
Hyp - here's an early
It's a magic wand. Just wave it over your mother when necessary - and it'll buy you an hour's worth of suspended animation of the aforementioned parent. And - when she reanimates, there won't be a vestige of crankiness for at least another hour.
My own Ma arrives on Tuesday for a fortnight. If there's any cranky behaviour there, it's likely to be due to her having fallen last week - and done exactly the same to her shoulder as I did to mine last month.
I may have to keep her well medicated - with decent single malt.

Peeks in the salon and timidly asks for a back log exemption pass.
We had electricity, but no internet service. I went through major withdrawal.

costumes are done, and the performance is today. Despite the complaining I've done, it's been kind of fun. I think it's safe to say that we won't be getting any more last-minute angels--2 girls showed up for the first time yesterday, at dress rehearsal.
Must remember to take the camera...

Glad to hear that things are getting back to normal for you Lady Chattingly.
It does seem like quite a procedure LP but I'm sure it'll be fine.
I think I've got almost all the christmas presents sorted. We even managed to get a tree today. Where we went, by the time we got there had only a few trees left. Something about a shortage of real trees in the UK this year.

LP!
Tangible bookstores carries only the Danish translations of the books I wanted to get for the Mrs, so now is truly the time to breathe deeply, mutter and think. Quickly.
Christmas party at work was fab - and I despite being served a half liter (16-17 oz) G&T during the evening, I made it without on Saturday. I guess the Saturday was disappointed - in the middle of the Christmas lunch we went to yesterday, I got hammered with a migraine despite going very carefully to the aquavit. So we had to leave early
Luckily it wasn't far away and we'd already before decided on bus out and taxi home so the driving was taken care of.
Nevertheless, for the birthday lunch we went for today, I volunteered to drive and so largely didn't drink anything at all - like two quarter glasses of some very decent beer, a Bock and an Abbey Ale, both from Carlsberg's Semper Ardens (high-end) series.
We've had our share of herring this weekend

The Swedish meatball recipe my family makes has a white (bechamel) sauce made from the drippings of the sauteed meatballs (in place of the butter). I suspect that's not too authentic, but it's tasty regardless.
There's no need to apologize for the size of your post, LP. That's something that's very important to you. Like everyone else here, I wish you the all the best with your surgery and hope you recover quickly.
A Focus is one of the cars I've been considering getting once mine (a '94 Mazda 323) finally kicks the bucket. The Focus was on a list compiled by NPR's Tom and Ray Magliozzi of Car Talk fame http://www.cartalk.com/ of the best fuel efficient cars to buy. I really, really love (and totally trust) those guys.

Christmas may be coming but I'm still working away and haven't even had time to think of getting anything bought.
I think I'm going to declare it a non event although I doubt my sisters kids will agree.

Bald Bloke, are you still in Crewe? That's not the sort of town that inspires Christmas feelings, as I recall.

Morning All
Cold and crisp but dry, excellent.
Hope everything, including resolve, goes ok for you LP.
Mrs WA has driven a Focus nearly everyday for years and it has never missed a beat. We are just thinking of changing it for a Focus Estate to give us more options.
Panic, only 5 days and we're on the road with and all the associated clobber.
