I'm going car shopping today, not likely to buy anything today though.

FG - according to my dictionary muscovado is what's left when you've removed the molasses and moisture from sugar cane juice.

Musovado is also not what I used. I meant demerara.

Doctor Z, ... is this a good season for car shopping? In the thick of the Christmas mayhem, there are actuall parents that buy such things for their kids. And so dealerships might be hiking a few prices and options.

One can always shop now and buy later.

Is it? Good lord, I thought brown sugar was sugar and molasses. I guess I'd better Wiki myself an answer, posthaste.

I don't think you need to add anything to sugar to make it brown sugar. In fact, I think it requires *less* refining than white sugar.

And molasses contains sugar (I think). So if you added sugar to molasses, you'd just get really sweet molasses, wouldn't you?

All of the cars I have looked at are well within my price range, they are also a bit older. From what I have seen, a lot of the dealers here are dropping prices to make room for newer models coming in.

I drive a '95 Pontiac Grand Am, and have milady in a '02 Olds Alero. machines built since the mid-90's have had to compete with the really good quality and long lasting Japanese lines, so the local-built are lasting much longer. Good luck, mate.

Car dealers also want to book those sales before the end of the year so they can show the revenue for the current year. It is a good time to buy.

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

Having worked in a Vehicle Inspection department* (I finished a couple of years ago) I can confirm that Witty's comment is indeed correct. There were fewer problems found by our engineers on shop-bought sales and bargains to be had on private sales at this time of year. (They're all trying to get rid of them and seem to repair any 'problems' for a quick sale)

Lentilla (Keeper of Non-Sequiturs)

Monster cookies... yum... just the thing for the little monsters.

Every year I hate Christmas more and more... Not the cooking, or the decorations, or the visiting with relatives. It's just the rampant commercialism that gets me down. Buy this, and bring your unhappy family back together! Buy this, and your wife will love you again! Buy this, and make it a real Christmas! Bleah. Every year, R. and I say we're going to go somewhere out of town, maybe somewhere where they don't celebrate Christmas. Although I don't think there's a place like that any more.

smiley - 2cents As I understand it, nowadays brown sugar is refined white sugar with molasses added back into it. Used to be of course that brown sugar was unrefined white sugar, but it's just cheaper this way. Like buttermilk isn't really buttermilk any more, it's just flavored and thickened milk. I still like it, though.
