One of the Swedish TV channels has been broadcasting West Wing - would you say it gives a fair picture of US politics/politicians?

About a month ago, we couldn't get a "Just Now" reading on any of our postings immediately after submitting them. Just now, I entered my Personal Space and ~ALL~ of the threads read "Just Now."

This latest peculiarity of the h2g2 servers is being discussed in F94020?thread=418287&show=20&skip=440 , B4.
Presumably pie eaten in a time warp has no calories *gets a large slice of pie*

And here I thought the servers had joined in the retrograde party. When I saw everything marked "Just Now" I had a Malkovich moment.
West Wing, at least in the early seasons, showed American governance the way some of us wished it could be.

I'm a big fan of the west wing, but unfortunately Channel 4 int he Uk hasn't got round to showing the fourth series yet, even thought hey're showing the fifth on thei digital channel E4. Which I can't get!
Oh, and my political compass-
Economic Left/Right: -6.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.64
I'm more libetarian than the Dalai lama and further left than than Nelson Mandela by the looks of it.

Speaking of doing things backwards (::helps herself to a piece of Amy's time warp pie: Friday is my Unbirthday. It's exactly halfway to my 34th. First the end of the retrograde, then my Unbirthday: I think things might just look up for me. Unfortunately, my three day holiday weekend has been disrupted by my stepbrother's wedding on Saturday. I can't go out of town, and my mother and her husband will be coming to stay with me for the big event. I like my stepbrother and I am happy for him (not to seem totally churlish), but I wish he had chosen a different weekend.
I had another crazy phone survey last night. I forgot to ask who was paying for it. There were three topics: how often I change my car's tires, the importance of the immune system and who will I be voting for in November.

Talking of birthdays, it's mine next week. I'll be 23 on the 10th.

I know that there are a lot of virgos in the salon. Mine is on the 21st. Who are we missing?

I'm a sun-Scorpio, actually, but my Ascendant is 1 degree of Virgo. And then I have Saturn rising, which makes me strong in Capricorn-related stuff, on top of having moon in Capricorn. And to top it off, right next to my Ascendant is Asteroid Lilith.

I'm a gemini, but my honey's a virgo...and very much so, I think.
Z, sorry, I'd forgotten to congratulate you. I'm terrible at remembering all the things I wanted to say in replies...perhaps I should keep notes! And happy birthday to those I completely missed.

That reference to two of the muses a few leds ago got me thinking about a wonderful poem by Douglas Kynoch in his wee book "Doric for Swots".
Unfortunately I can't find it at the moment - which is a pity because it's deliciously funny.
Maybe I need to look backwards along the shelf?

I found it! But reckon it will lose quite a lot in the translation, being broad Doric dialect.
Called "Nine Gweed Rizzons", it runs to seven verses which is a bit much to post but here are the last two:
Euterpe wis forfochen
Aifter feeplin at her flute;
Polymnia wis ailin;
An Calliope wis oot.
Mount Helicon wis heelster -
Gowdie aa damt aifterneen.
An aat's the wye I niver
Got ma magnum opus deen.

I've just discovered Tom Holt. His book My Hero must surely be the ancestor of Jasper fForde's series.
Tomorrow's dress code will be tee shirts inside out.

For any of the Salonistas who wish to make it easier for their fellow Salonistas and all around h2g2 researchers to remember their birthday (and the reason why I congratulate anyone who's got a researcher name that I recognize) why not let me know (yes, right now it's me, but that's because some bloke... has disappeared on one of those really long lunch breaks) at A293195
I recently read Orson Scott Card's book Ender's Game - I just couldn't put it down, so I read in 1½ days (w*rking days)!
Got myself a new title - Assistant Deputy Editor at !
Now, what was it in the backlog that I meant to comment on... *scratches head*
