FG, do you boil the tofu in advance and store it in the fridge or right before you use it? And do you season the water?

I know that corn is soaked in lime water to produce hominy, but I've never seen anyone make it. It's easy to find in cans in the US. White and yellow. It really isn't like anything else, so I don't know what you would substitute for it.

My grandmother used to saute onions and bell peppers in bacon drippings, add a can of hominy and a can of tomatoes and serve it with fried fish - which she fried in drippings, of course. And she would add it to ham and bean soup. She was a hugh hominy fan. My mother doesn't like it, so I didn't grow up eating it at home. Then when we lived in Texas and I had Hispanic friends, I learned about pozole. smiley - drool It's to die for.

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive

Can I put in a second call for the Merikans amongst us to identify my mystery tv programme? Sorry to be a bother but desperation is setting in smiley - winkeye. It's probably a sitcom, almost certainly American. Seven male characters - 5 older and white, 2 in their twenties/late teens and black. From or possibly set in the late 70s/early 80s. The oldest of the white actors looks as if he's had a previous career in Westerns/ Bonanza type programmes.

Thanks smiley - biggrin.

Amy, can you describe the clothing the characters are wearing in the photo?

Wasn't Lorne Green in some detective thing? Could it be the Dad from Bonanza, Amy? Or isn't he that old?

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

I was in England during the 70's, Amy, so I'm quite ignorant about what was going on on American television.

Egon, I've heard that Mosely's latest is good. I've always liked his Easy Rawlins mysteries.

Has anyone else heard about the news from the CDC (in the US) about the three transplant patients who died because the donor was infected with rabies?

They're wearing shirts and waistcoats - the older guys sort of cowboy/western style, the younger two more along the lines of a naff Jackson Five stage suit. The newsreader-type guy is wearing a grey suit.

I'd have recognised Lorne Green. It definitely isn't him but you're on the right lines.

*heads back to imdb*

He was in a detective thing, so I'm glad I wasn't entirely imagining it!

Who was that bloke in Wells Fargo? Forrest Tucker?

I know it isn't connected, but The Virginian has come to mind with the dredging up of old westerns, I did like him smiley - blush.

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.")

I don't remember Lorne Green being in any kind of detective series.

He was one of the stars of a western titled Bonanza, and most of the Americans in the salon should be able to sing the theme song.

Dun-da-da Dun-da-da Dun-da-da Dun-da-da DUN DAAA!

Lorne Green was daddy rancher and there were three sons, Hoss, Lil Joe and, and, uh...

I'm sorry Amy. I have no idea what the program was. Once I hear the name I'll probably remember it.

Lorne Green was THE Daddy.

In any tv series, team, workplace etc you always have to have a Daddy, (actual sex isn't necessarily relevent) and he was the best.

Amy, here's a wild guess. Doesn't exactly fit the cast as you descrive, though.

Thanks for trying WM but that's not it. The one I'm after doesn't have any women in the cast photo and the lads are a bit older and thinner than that. I'm pretty sure it *is* American but all the other photos were pictures of programmes shown on British tv so I would imagine it's been shown in the UK too.

Oh my! I remember Carter Country. smiley - laughsmiley - groan It was one of many sitcoms that made Southerners look like idiots. Especially small town Southerners. Did it ever make it to a second season?
