Just home from spiderman 2. All I have to say is Wow. They got it. Sam Raimi nailed it on this one (including his homage to Evil Dead2). It is simply an awesome film despite the inclusion of the half asleep Kirsten Dunst.

Just got home from Rush. The way I want to describe the concert would be yikesed so, I'll just say this: it was f***ing awesome!

Had one surprise, the guy I went with stole some smokes from me. Threw me completely off because I would have never suspected it from him.

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive

Are there any sitcom experts in the Salon. Yesterday I was helping my sister-in-law with a pub-tupe quiz. Unfortunately most of the questions were in picture form so it was hard to look things up on the web. I did ok but there was one picture I really couldn't guess in the 'Which tv programme is this' category. Unfortuantely I don't have a scanner - and I no longer have the picture either.

From memory, it was a picture of the cast. It had seven members, all male. From the clothes and hairstyles I'd guess it was either from the late seventies/early eighties or set in that time. The guy at the front, sitting behind a desk, has the look and demeanour of a news reader. Behind him are two young black lads, early twenties, look like refugees from the Jackson Five. Behind them is a middle-aged white guy with dyed brown hair and distinctive side-burns. To the left is a white man who made no impression on me whatsoever. To the right is an older white actor who had probably had a previous career in westerns.

Any ideas?

Not at the moment, Amy, did you get the impression it was a UK or US series?

Marv, Travis have an excellent website: http://www.travisonline.com the video archive gives a good flavour of the band. The lead singer does BS's track on his own with his acoustic guitar and it is like a party piece he performs at concerts. I first heard it at Glastonbury (I was watching on tv) and the crowd loved it, especially when he had a bit of a struggle on the high notes. I downloaded his version of Hit Me One More Time in the days of free music sharing from Napster.

I have been reading in my Daily Comic about women who have given work to make a fortune on eBay. Might be a good reason to tackle the attic and garage.

Hungover this am. smiley - hangover

I finish on Friday, and went out with a gal and one of the guys. I was hesitating about whether to have water or a glass of white wine and plumbed for the wine. The gal joined and also ordered wine, so the sweet man bought a bottle...

The dilithium crystals just canna take it any more....

I think I remember hearing the Travis cover of Hit Me when they did it on the Mark and Lard's day out in Robin Hoods Bay several years back. Very nicely done it was too.

Morning all. Going back a wee bit, Phil I didn't think Brian May had got his PhD. He never completed due to mucking around with some dodgy rock band. smiley - winkeye
Anyhoo, music covers. I do have a soft spot for Viva Las Vegas and there have been many covers. I particularly like the Dead Kennedys version because it is quite so different.

Hasn't he been awarded an honarary doctorate from the university of somewhere or other. I do know he managed to get a bit part as a player in some little uni/art school band back in the early 70s and didn't finish his PhD at Manchester University smiley - winkeye

Covers, some of the covers of the yes albums were a bit dodgy smiley - winkeye

The stuff Jim Moray is doing with traditional english folk music is good. The first time I heard his version of Lemady was fantastic, one voice but sampled and looped and played back to make it sound like ke was a whole group of people singing away.

Amy, I have no knowledge of American TV worth reporting. Sorry.

It was just announced that the division I work in at my company has been sold to another company. This rather frightens me as there are almost always layoffs when companies are acquired.

I have no idea what sitcom that is, Amy. We get so many that come and go within a matter of a few months that most barely register on the collective American consciousness.

You're right, Lentilla. That bluegrass version of Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice" is awesome. Our local college radio station plays it every now and then and it never fails to bring a smile to my face.

Tainted Love is a cover; everyone knows the Soft Cell version, and of course the Marilyn Manson (which sounds exactly the same to my ear), but it was originally by Gloria Jones, who later became Mrs Marc Bolan. I'd love to hear that, simply to find out how different it is.

I also mentally collect versions of "Summertime" - Janis Joplin, natch, and the Fun Boy Three, and the original version from the opera 'Porgy and Bess'.

FG- my lady friend is curently out of the country on holiday.

I heard Jim Moray on Radio 2 last week, he was a guest on mark radcliffe's show, I was impressed.

Oh, and my favourite cover version is Jewel's version of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer". No, really.

Ben, I have heard the original "Tainted Love" and the feel of the song is quite different, but still good. It is just a good song. I *hate* the Marylin Manson version, for the record.
