I too am interested and appalled - in equal parts - by the fire Lil.
Hope you hear about the tv thing soon Kelli. And that was really disappointing having such an anti-climactic departure from your job.
On the subject of swimming trunks v shorts.. years ago, Mr T used to have a very tight pair of speedo type trunks. The more weight he accumulated, the tighter they got. They were known in our house as Prime Cutters. I'm happy he now wears something more decorous.

Two people have been killed in Salt Lake today. A very bad accident has occurred on the main artery. This means that thousands of people will be jammed up in tarffic. I feel for the families of those who were killed, and am dreading teh drive home.

Marv, it is a Hawker Hurricane being excavated, that downed a Dornier believed to have been en route to drop a bomb on Buckingham Palace. The plane actually came down some distance away slap in the middle of the junction of Buckingham Palace Road and Ebury Bridge Road. I watched the programme on Channel 5, parly because I lived, when first married, a stones throw (literally) from the site and no one had any idea that the aircraft was buried under the road.
Lil, those fires look terrifying, even the controlled ones.
Kelli, of course they want a stunning lady like you on tv
a large pot of marmalade and a small child. Tim, the Caliph, Terry, Wanda Ng all yelled

Lil, of course such a huge destructive force is a "hot" topic of conversation. I could only imagine the fear of the people in the line of that thing.
30 years is not really that old in aircraft years. I'm sure that Uncle Sam has put me in many a bird at least that old. They get overhauled every so many hours...
It is almost the first dawn for the new Iraqi government. The place is still a hotbed of fighting. There is much work to be done and more people will needlesly die, before it is over. Yet, it is a step towards stability, and a huge vindication for me. As many times on this site(not on this thread) as I have been accused as being a part of some kind of American Empire it is nice to see the handover occour on schedule...
In more personal news, I'll be leaving the thread for a few days. My grandfather passed and I am off to New York for the funeral. Although I did get a bright bit... The g/f when she heard the news, decided that I would need her comforting and promptly bought a transatlantic plane ticket!! Is an amazing display of loyalty....

Flipper, I am sorry for your loss.
I'm so tired today I could just sleep right now. But no, I have to clean my house and make dinner. I need a wife, damnit!

So, if you had a compact SUV and you had to evacuate, what would you take? Assume a large pet carrier containing two cats plus food, water and bowls for same.
We've been put on mild alert; veering winds are likely to bring ash. Possible ember-bearing ash. With the wind doing a 180 degree turn, the fires are marching down the south face of the Capitans, which are now largely obscured.
We had some Darwin Award candidates in Lincoln over the weekend, right in the A District; they have a strip of land next to friends of mine and decided to build themselves a nice big campfire on it!!!!!!!!!
Laren called a friend who called the sheriff, and within 15 minutes we had firefighters on police on the scene. The eejits left shortly after being handed a very big citation and fine. D'OH!
