Candi - now 42! Posted Feb 20, 2004
hootoo researcher Evangeline, a good friend of mine from Louisiana, recently sent me these Mardi Gras items from previous New Orleans parades

Is it appropriate for me to mention the H2G2 Mardi Gras parade at the Campsite? F45817?thread=380240
.....actually I haven't been there myself yet!

Since my Fat Tuesday will be spent eating crepes at church, I may as well have at least a little virtual fun, eh?

I don't think I'll join in. I've got too many active conversation forums as it is already. Thanks for the invite, though.

We have completely different traditions here. And no Lent.
Yesterday I got an invitation to some course in Brussels. Too bad I don't know any resercher from there.

The most important thing here is toboganing or sledging or something like this. And special buns with whipped cream and pea soup.

"Pots and pots of split pea soup...."
Ten pop-culture points to the one who can name that reference.

Split pea soup sounds wonderful, Afgncaap. I've been in bed all day with a with intermittant , and something creamy and soothing and smooth sounds like the perfect thing to eat.
I had some bad news during the week; the sort of bad news that could get significantly worse. I think it hit me harder than I thought it had, because I have been migrainy for two days. Still I am talking to my homeopath tonight; we shall see whether she can banish them again, like she did before.

for Ben.
I've sliced my finger again , the same finger, the same place, different angle. But a steristrip and an Active Gel plaster have stemmed the blood flow and it feels relatively comfortable. No1 son called me a daft , but I know H will be much more sympathetic.

Very much separately, with usually.
And the pea soup must have... er ... is it allowed to say the legs of pigs in it? I guess there is a better expression for it. And later they make a special toy of the bones. I don't know any English word for it, though.

Ham shanks or ham hocks? Is is cured pork Hati, or fresh? I haven't made split pea soup for ages. It sounds yummy.
I'm not up to your challenge, Affy. I don't recognize the quote.
Ben & Caer. One of the worst cuts I ever got was from the lid of a can of cat food. One with a pop-top lid. It stuck so I pulled really hard, the can slipped and the lid sliced my finger to the bone. It spooked me so much that now I use a can opener even if the cans have pop tops.

Hope you feel better soon Ben - and 'ouch', Caerwynn. The top of my middle finger, left hand is throbbing in sympathy with your injury - careless accidents with sharp knives x 2, years ago but acutely remembered.
