Egads! That is a fairly massive amount of food.

Remind me to go to Newport Beach soon and have dinner at the Marrakesh resaurant that Courtesy took me to last year. I suddenly have a yearning for that strange sweet meat pie thingy that they make (MR and Courtesy know of what I speak).

And the spelling in that attack is much worse than the one that was posted elsewhere 20 minutes or so ago. Have you been 'munching' on some more sauce since then, Egon? smiley - winkeye

Hyp, they're regular buns - but the almond paste inside is sweet, the whipped cream is often sweetened a bit, and there's powdered sugar sprinkled on top

Don't worry. I don't think that ferrets react the same way to cat food. smiley - winkeye

My boss just told me to take a nap. You think I might seem a little tired or something? smiley - laugh

GD, I have been quite aware of the deeds of that researcher. I was unlucky to read the postings Kaz is upset about.
Ivan, can your mum bake the napoleon smiley - cake? That takes quite some time too and it's really smiley - drool. smiley - winkeye

She can bake the napoleon smiley - cake, but she doesn't do it very often. She prefers that smiley - cake with honey and almonds and cardamom and other things that I can't remember at the moment. And she still keeps brown onion peel, to dye easter eggs. They're fun. *thinks - I must get some brown onions*

There's another soup she makes, with ham hocks, spinach and rice. I've just remembered it, because the spare dyed eggs usually end up chopped on top of it.

These soups make up for all the rollmops she's so fond of.

Oh yes, onion peels and birch leaves are the best for dyeing the eggs. smiley - ok

Hati, I didn't know about the birch leaves, but of course there aren't many birch trees here. I know where there is one, though - it's in my sister's garden. Should the leaves be fresh, or dry?

Caer, I have a good friend who is quite smiley - envy of H's test drive. Heck, I am as well! smiley - laugh

I am perfectly calm when I cook. As long as nothing catches fire, that is. smiley - winkeye

Ivan, the very young leaves are the best, those little sticky ones. Uusally we don't have leaves on the birches at Easter time, so we bring in the branches and let the leaves stick their noses out indoors.

We get new leaves on birch trees in September or October, which might explain why I've never seen them used for dying Easter eggs...

And yes, my mother finds cooking relaxing. So do I, if it comes to that. Well, most of the time, anyway. Baking is relaxing; making soup is relaxing; making curry is exciting; but cooking for more than four people and making more than one course is pure hell.

I don't find cooking relaxing or exciting. And I am going to have about a dozen guests tonight. I guess I better get busy.

I remember dyeing eggs with tea (isn't that a chinese thing?) and I think we used beetroot once smiley - erm

Commiserations to folk with anoying slices out of apendadges. I sliced my finger on a bit of brewery and it catches on absolutely everything.

My Brother's w*rk brought him up to Glasgow (he lives 500+ miles away in Portsmouth - which is a long way to us Brits smiley - winkeye) It was great to see him again, and he was telling me how his family is getting on. I particularly liked the line about his eldest. "She's just like you, you know - totaly mad logic and a bit wierd" He said it with a laugh, but it's still a big resposibility for a lass of only just 7!
