Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.") Posted Dec 27, 2003
Well, after an almost 24 hr power outtage and 3 feet of snow, I am finally able to get back online.
We have had so much snow in the last about 30+ hours that many many trees have fallen over or had very large branches snap right off.
I have actually shoveled about 6 feet (in height) worth of snow. 3 feet at home and 3 feet at my sister's.
I also had the distinct mis-pleasure of getting completely soaked whilst pushing my dad's car out of several stuck positions. He ended up buying snow chains after I b*tched about him not having any.
Tomorrow, I get my first brand new coat in more than 10 years, my step-mom is taking me to find one I like as part of my christmas present. We would have done it today but, with all the snow it was not really possible.
I'll shut up now. LOL.

Just spoke with Marv, he is still without power and did not manage to make it in to work, there is no way his van could have made it up the mountain.
And to think, Gwen didn't use to think that Utah got much in the way of snow.

Power just came back on here. It was out for over 20 hours.
I have over three feet of snow at my house and more on the way. I spent about four hours digging this afternoon, and my back is killing me now.
Bah, I hate snow.
Good news: Lots of snow is good for our water supply
Bad News: Lots of snow knocked my power out from 0300 this morning till 2200 tonight.
Good News: Lots of snow helps us get the base we need at the resort
Bad News: As soon as we get that base I am unemployed.

Marv, sorry to hear such bad news....although, being an optimist, I think it may actually be a blessing in disguise.
Zomnker, if you think her opinion of snow in Utah is bad....just wait until you hear her opinion of snow in TX.......now I know she thinks that's a joke. But you do have to remember the poor girl is from Denver, where it's never 80 degrees in December...

'Lo everybody. Xmas turned out ok, what with the school handing out mulled wine and my students having a party and all.
Yesterday we started in on New Year. For the Russian staff members, you understand. Yes, we absolutely did have to break out the champagne again.
And I made my teacher cry. The one who I was disciplining. Result.

..'Staggers out of backlog'
I'll have to properly read and digest that lot when I'm fully awake
Thats that for another year then..always seems like a bit of an anti climax to me.Christmas eve,Joshua wouldnt go to sleep and was up again 5 mins after 'Santa' dropped his bike off, I had a little too much to drink and got an attack of the s, and a friend came over with some presents
.
Xmas day was spent at my mums, an experience I don't usually completely look forward to! ..but it as pretty nice for a change. It was a bit manic to start with as Tyler was straight in the pressies as soon as he arrived and between him n Josh it was mayhem as paper n toys flew everywhere(id left most of jo's presents under mums tree as well as the ones from everyone else).
Then I ended up chasing Tyler round the gardern while Steve n dad tried to put together the battery powered police trike my mum had bought him (he was 2 on the 23rd!) .They lft soon after to get back to cook dinner for Loretta's mum n sisters n we had a nice uneventful afternoon.
Yesterday, however was a different story..i managed to cadge a lay in while while jo watched a dvd, then i was going to cut his hair with my new clipppers. So i hacked off loads with the scissors first..(he was badly needing a cut!) , n then the darn clipper wouldnt cut! he was throwing a paddy, i lost my temper n we ended up in a taxi to mums. Steve was there n couldnt fix them either..he''ll be in a hat till i can get to a hairdresser/borrow some from a friend!
This morning I need to go back to bed but i'm babysitting for my friend while she works.

Sorry MR and Titania.
I've never been to these Nordic places. My imagination tends to get aroused by the place. I get annoyed because I often see the ships going in and out of our local city. I'll never go, so I just dream.
One policeman was mudered last night in Leeds, 65mls south of me, I just heard on the news. Bad news for the UK. It is unusual.

It is unlkely we shall have snow at all this winter, if we do it will bareley cover the grass and melt in a few hours. But I always hope . I shall have to go to earthcam.com and watch the snow fall in the US. However, I am wouldn't want to be without power for 20 hours, our usual is around 3.
Ltp I ~know~ there are rats, we do get those in Surrey, the main reason for getting rid of our old open compost heap and replacing it with a plastic bin was the rats nest. As for puma, night hunting or not, the local wildlife edpert said that if there are any seen here, they are more likely to have come over the border from Hants or Sussex where there is more open counrtyside. Poor old Surrey is rapidly being erroded by housing, 56,000 have to be squeezed in in the next 10 years.
The nearest I have been to Scandinavain food is the Dickens & Jones (London store) smorsgabord and Ikea restaurant. Another thing to rectify once we are free to travel
RotK was brilliant, I'm going to marry Viggo Mortensen when I grow up.

You'll have to get in line behind me, Caer. Oh, that man! For some reason, I like him better when he's a bit scruffy.
Did everyone see the numbers on the Iran earthquake? Some 20 thousand people died. I hope the US puts the politics aside and helps them.

At least most of Europe is very helpful. It is such a tragedy. I could whine and rant about our poor weather but we don't have earthquakes here.

They were already overrun with volounteers from the UK. I hope some longterm goodwill comes out of this lot. We have some good rescue teams based here.

Yet more backlog!
Familiar with DFDS, but not DIB
No sharks (as far as I know) in the Baltic Sea - sounds more like an Icelandic or Greenlandic tradition to me...

Ladies, we will just have to form a queue. Let the teeny boppers have Orlando Bloom. Mr. Mortenson obviously appeals to a different type of woman.
