MR this is making me get my left wing princeples out - people with that attitude don't deserve the attutide they are priveldged enough to recieve. Now if we had a truely metriocracy...
*plots revolution to overthrow the capitalist system*
*puts princeples away and decided to be quite*
I finished the sex education at the inner city school today, the kids were great!, very intellegent, and now scared to death of STIs hopefully.
They were pretending to be all macho and know loads about sex, then every so often they'd ask a question that made you realise how young they actually were.
They were fascinated by the female condom, as was the teacher, and frankly myself, (why would any couple choose to use that! for pleasure?) and were quite shocked when we talked about abortions. My teaching partner had just finished obs and gyne finals, so knew everything about them. Hopefully that made them listen to the contraception talk.
And they all got to practice putting a condom on the fake penis as well.

I just finished re-reading Cryptonomicon, too! -- I can definitely see our Amy playing Amy Shaftoe. I would want the cameo of Aunt Nora.
What's amazing is to go back and see how Stephenson prepared us for the experience of Enoch Root, which I'm hoping there will be more of in Volume II of the Baroque Cycle, "Confusion."
I have now got a copy of Uru, chapter 4 in the Myst series. This one has the option to play online, which sounds scary but exciting!

Well this was a class of 13/14 year old boys (medium ablility) so whilst they'd heard of the concept of abortion, they'd never actually thought how it was done. When one of them asked, he probably didn't expeect so much detail.
She also managed to get them talking about how a girl would feel if she'd had an abortion, and they agreed on "upset".

Gosh, I love the internet. I just put in a hold request for Quicksliver at my local library. They have 10 copies in circulation and 11 holds. I guess it will be a while before I get it. But at least I didn't have to schlep over there in person to request the hold.
They only have Snow Crash on audio tape. I find that a bit odd.

I could see Marv as either of the Waterhouses. Myself, I think Bobby Shaftoe or Enoch Root.

That's good H, I'm off to bed now,
Coel, thanks for all your help on stats, I will type a full reply soon, I promise. Just to let you know that I've solved my problem (I was right my supervisor was wrong, and I shall explain how when it is a more socialable hour).

Somehow I see Loony as Root. And I can sort of see ben as Bobby Shaftoe.

Wouldn't Professor Tonks be perfect to play Alan Turing? And with a bit of prosthetic make-up, Affi would excel as Goto Dengo.

I can see those roles being filled by the nominees, Lil.

I'll have to take your word for it, Lil. That's a book that I've yet to read. The title sounds Lovecraftian, so would I be correct if I assumed that it was written in a similar style (or possibly by the same author and I've just not heard of it for some reason)?
I should go to bed. It's ten after midnight.

Nononononononono! Neal Stephenson is the king of teh Cyber(cypher)punk genre. Think William Gibson, not HP Lovecraft.
This is sci-fi/chypherpunk/US History.

AHA! You, sir, are somewhere in the central time zone!
(My goodness, I think I've pinned Affy down to the American midwest! Has anyone every gotten that far?)
Lunch tomorrow with Courtesy. And then grading, grading, grading.

IIRC we had that figured out ssome time ago. In fact GL has a much smaller footprint of possible Affy locations.

A good night for me! Two "feuding" friends finally talked to eachother. I have been the go-between for them for quite some time and their convo tonight is due to a lot of groundwork laid by me. Things seem to be going well but, time will tell the tale.

Nice eye there, Montanna. A year or two ago, I never would've even thought about saying something like that.
But truth be told, I'm letting a lot of stuff slip these days. It's just my luck that Garius isn't around for a few weeks, or else he might've already bought a plane ticket to my neighborhood.
But yes, the Cyber Punk genre. I keep drifting in and out of that one. I think....was there a Cyber Punk novel called "Technomancer", or something? That might be the genre that I'm thinking of if I'm thinking 'bout the right one.

Wait, no. "Technomancer" is something different. "Neuromancer", maybe? I can't really remember. The last part was "-mancer", that's all I can definitely remember.
