*hmmm wonders if he should be worried about all this picking on men listening...decides just to pretend not to listen so he can't get in trouble like he usualy does and just smile and nod*

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Jul 9, 2003
Having finally actually watched one of the Harry Potter films on VHS (the chamber of secrets) I think that most characters were OK, except for Dumbledore who appeared to be much older and, more importantly, weaker than I had pictured him, and yes, Hermione was too pretty, with not enough character in her face - and it was a bit of a surprise to see the Malfoys as blondes - I had pictured them as black-haired but in pretty much the same haircut as in the film

Hermione can't be to bad looking she hooks up with the one seeker...and Ron seems to think she looked rather nice at the ball

Hey - that wasn't a rant! That was wryly humourous girl-talk! Believe me, you know when you've been ranted!

yes, yes you will.
So, who are they going to cast as Tonks, then?

Witty Moniker Posted Jul 10, 2003
Since Tonks is a shape shifter, I suppose they could use several actresses.

well, yeah. true enough. the one I was thinking of, and perhaps this is because in the book she really rather annoyed me, and this actress annoys me, is Jennifer Tilly.

I was discussing this thread with my Private Life, who does listen, bless him, but who has not read the book. He listened to my description of Umbridge, and suggested Cherie Blaire. La Blaire is not quite fat enough in my opinion, but she sure has the mouth for it!
Tonks? Zoe Wannamaker about 20 years ago, but she played the witch who is in charge of Quiddich, so she is out too.
I liked Tonks, and I really liked her taste in hairstyles.

We'd need someone quite young to portray Tonks in the film. However, I think that the actress who played Jubilee in X Men (Katrina Florece) fits the mental image that I had for Tonks. Don't bother trying to find that actress, as she has only had one film and has no pictures on imdb.

Well, only her main appearance has to be young. When she shifts it could be to any age. I think Jennifer Tilly is a pretty good older choice. I can't come up with anyone else, though. I'm trying to think of someone who can do slapstick, since Tonks is so clumsy.

With the excellent CG that WB have employed for the films so far, I would think that you could get away with CG molding of the actress into whatever you want and still keep some of the features that make Tonks well, Tonks.
I rather liked the character and would have loved to hear more about her. Perhaps in later books.

well I would guess we would...concidering that the phoenix group (erm didn't they sponcer kit and the knight rider or something ) should have a major role in the next few books

I agree with Jennifer Tilly! Excellent.
Anywho, I could entirely see Harry as being angry and angst-filled. Yelling at friends? I know I did/do that now and again (what friendship can't stand up with a bit of quarreling?).
I hope this conversation isn't dead

I'm sure it isn't; we're waiting for others to finish it.

I've now finished it (as of half an hour ago) but I'll have to cogitate for a bit before I say anything about it.

Hope you don't mind me butting in on the conversation, but I haven't found anyone else to talk with yet.
Have you noticed that we still haven't found out what Harry's parents' jobs were? Rowling must be saving this up as a big surprise, because if they'd just worked, say, at Gringotts it would have been mentioned before.

Hi Aurora
That is actually a really good point - and no I hadn't noticed it. Wasn't Harry's father an Auror? Trouble is that it is so long since I read the first three that I have forgotten most of them. And I am not sure I can face re-reading the lot before HP VI, or which ever one is next.
