As much digging as they do, Amy, surely theyll be finished soon. Or are they fixing the same spot over and over?
The noise du jour here is firecrackers. The kids started shooting them off on Monday and will be allowed to shoot them until July 6th. I like the pretty 'night works' my mother always calls them. But the noise is really obnoxious!

BT must be making a day of it as they are busy next door but one. I wonder if it will be handsets at dawn when the ntl guy finally turns up to check our modem. Which has remained connected for a whole hour now!
Going to see No2 son perform tonight, if we can get up to Kingston in time afer H gets home. His band are doing a 30 minute set and are hoping they can stretch their seven songs to fit the time!

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Jul 3, 2003
Is it a coincidence that as soon as Caer gets a connection h2g2 goes all frayed at the edges?
It's not BT, it's the Council. They have filled in the hole now but it's a heck of a mess . I don't quite know what they were trying to achieve. That particular bit has been dug up four or five times in the past year.
Good luck to Son No.2, Caer. Tell him to play slowly or to repeat songs. No one will notice.

Rough luck on the noise, Amy. Hopefully they'll stop soon. Cheers to no2 son Caer, I'm sure he'll be fine.
It's almost July 4! I'm so excited. Not least for the reason that I get off work and get to play with my new graphics progie. Woohoo.

The thing about councils and infrastructure organisations like BT, in Britain specifically, is that they dig right before the weekend, leaving huge gaping holes in the ground and great traffic diversions over the weekend, when the builders don't have to work.
I wonder if any of you would care to inspect my latest design for my personal Web site (not my, uh, corporate one) I'd like a few comments before I release it - there are usually problems I can't find.

Chris, do you mean things like the 'News page' and 'my Journal' links on the welcome page that return 404 errors?

Coniraya Posted Jul 3, 2003
Amy, it must be my magnetic personality
I will let No2 son know that the Salonistas are wishing him well. Of course this gig has necessitated a new amp for his bass guitar and he was talking about a new bass too but I think the new car has stymied that one for the moment.

Prof, I get the 404 errors too when clicking on the 'News page' and 'my Journal' links

Witty Moniker Posted Jul 3, 2003
The links in the far right column are okay, it's the ones in the paragraph that I get the 404s.

I hadn't tried the ones in the paragraph. I was simply very pleased and flattered to find a link to my website on your links page, Prof. Thanks!
Well, I've got a gourd to finish. *refreshes her mug of tea and heads for her studio*

Prof - your site looks a bit odd in Netscape 4.08 - the right hand menu shows up to the left instead, and the paragraph text below the menu
Oh - and I've been trying to start the h2g2 Web Site Testing Group A1052551 in case you'd like to have it tested in more browsers!

Chris Tonks Posted Jul 3, 2003
Oh, the paragraph! I see what you mean now, yes. I just copied the front page over directly from the old site. I probably should have checked that. Thanks.
I'll head over to the testing group, Titania - should be useful. Especially as I can't test it in any Linux browsers any more. However, I don't care about the problems in Netscape 4 - that's not the most standards-complient browser in the world.

Just made my way through the backlog. You know how these things are, the longer you leave it, the worse it gets.
I really enjoyed the meetup. Found someone interested in buying my car (waves at Z) it was good to chat to Caerwyn, I got a t-shirt for being on the team that came second and Munchkin gained a h2g2 mug as a flat warming present from Abi!
I thought I had got by being only mildly sloshed, until Spimcoot invited Munchkin & I back to chat some more. a few to many and I was not a well bunny the next morning. Still, that will teach me.
My first days in the brewery went well. It is a bit of an unusual situation, in that I am not sure that there is enough work for me, but they seem happy enough.

Expecting kids for summer reading in about an hour. Today we're doing funny songs. In honor of Independence Day we will sing God Bless my Underwear and make Uncle Sam ice cream cones.
