I thought you would.
I am sure that A would like this leg of the trip too. Have you rattled the bars of his cage?

He probably would, I'll let him know the next time he comes online... Maybe we should do Oxford on Tuesday, Ban Colli Day seems to be a good day for a mini meet rather than tourist things because everywhere will be crowded.

There are old bones too... and things that are stuffed . And it smells weird.
I'll phone my old college when we're clearer about dates and make enquiries.

It is almost a meta-museum. Sol would hate it, (is it Sol who hates old fashioned museums?) but I love it because it isn't only a museum of 19th century things, it also looks like a 19th century museum.

A mini-meet may be better on a day that isn't followed by a working day, I'm not always as sober as I was on saturday you know

I'm not sure because the book is at home, but I think I read that the reading room under the dome is students only, but that they give tours of some of the other parts of the library. I'll check it out again when I get home.

They don't let regular tourists into the Radcliffe Camera, Hyp, but they used to let former members of the university to take guests in by arrangement. I'll see what I can do .

Which library is it that has the books arranged by size and colour rather than author or subject? Think it is one of the Oxford ones, anyone know?

Phil Posted Feb 22, 2005
Someone mentioned curry in Bratford
Depending on the day of the week in Oxford, I know of at least one other alumnus of that institution (no it's not me, they didn't want me there ).

As a librarian, it would be pretty special for me to get to visit the Radcliffe Camera. But, as a librarian, I sympathize with their position. It is, after all, there for the benefit of their students and professors. (I never know what to call people in the English educational system.)Tourists would make it extremely difficult to study.
My guide books say slightly different things about it. That's not particularly helpful. "England for Dummies" says that you can see the Radcliffe Camera only on guided tours, April through September, Monday through Friday at 10:30 and 11:30 am and 2 and 3 pm and mornings only on summer weekends and during the winter. Cost is 3 pounds 50. (Don't have a pound sign on my keyboard.)
The other book, "Best Day Trips from London" says that the Radcliffe Camera and the other reading rooms are closed to the public, but that you can visit the Divinity School; a 15th-century lecture hall; the Exhibition Room, which mounts rotating displays of rare volumns and prints; Duke Humphry's Library; and other parts of the library on guided tours Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 9:30 to 12:30. 3 pounds 50
Here's the deal. Since all of you are being nice enough to not only put up with me for over a fortnight, but to put me up as well - please let me buy the tickets for all of us to the places on the schedule that charge admission. Teuchter has generously purchased my ticket to the flower show.
I'm trying to think of something to bring all of you from the Ozarks that will fit comfortably in my luggage. I have a couple of ideas.
No, it will definitely not be Uncle Harvey's moonshine. That would get all of us arrested.

Looking forward to Stonehenge and Avebury, never been to Stonehenge and haven't done Avebury since school.

I have a dreadful temptation to include a stop-off at Marlborough and a trip to the Polly Tea Rooms. If we get the date right it might be Market Day too.
Whaddya Reckon, Mr D?

Ok - who is Calendar Monitor?
Market Days in Marlborough are Wednesday and Saturday. Mind you, Market Days in Cirencester are Monday and Friday, but the Marlborough Market is better, I think. Can we do the Stonehenge / Avebury Trip on one of those days?

I was just thinking that if you go to Bath (and you really ought to), you must have tea in the pump room. It was one of the highlights of my trip in 1998.
*Sorely tempted to cash in Mr M's frequent flyer miles and join you all.*

Well, I think we are planning on Bath, and you are right about the Pump Room. How can anyone resist being Jane Austin for the day?
Only thing is, I don't know Bath very well. Could Caerwynn do that trip, and pass the Baton on the way back? We could all meet up at Leigh Delemere Service Station, (as mentioned in The Eyre Affair, or was it in The Well of Lost Plots?)
Ok, ok, not Leigh Delemere, but you get my drift.

I bet I could.
Assuming all goes according to plan and we're able to do the Stonehenge/Avebury trip on a day that I'm available is there anything I should bring?
