Hey, Irv! Nice to see you!
I've put up a couple of the photos I took last night:
http://www.asterlil.com/ott/photography/moonrise.htm
One of them has something weird in it. The pictures want focus and some kind of filter so that I can get a sharper and more detailed picture, so please don't think I'm bragging on the quality.

I'm not sure "every salonista" has been talking about *this* Irving. I'm the Irving who goes away for a couple of years and then just happens to pop back on once in a while
(Yes, probably the same Irving)
Hey Lil! I'll check out those pics just as soon as I can get this computer (my brother's) to do so for me. Silly Dell, silly AOL...
So what's up in the world of the salon?

Nice to see you, too, Courtesy!
Lil, those pictures are great. That moon looks absolutely gorgeous. These were taken at your home in New Mexico?
As for the green object, is it possible you'd left a thumbprint on the lense? Touched it, maybe? I don't know, perhaps you've proved the existence of extra terrestrial life!

I ~never~ touch the lens, Irv, it's too expensive! Seriously, I had a remote shutter button so that I only had to swing the camera around with the pan handle, and I never fiddled with either focus (infinity), aperture (f3.5) or zoom once I started that series.
I keep thinking, what natural phenomenon would account for it? The only think I can think of would be some sort of lens flare from looking at the moon, but then why don't the even longer exposures (which I junked as actually overexposed) have the same object or something like it? I tended to do the exposures in pairs of roughly equal length. And a gnat wouldn't hold still that long.
Irv, the most recent thing of note is a massive redecoration of the atelier -- see http://www.asterlil.com/h2g2/aplannew.htm for details. That will also explain the concurrent threads.
And yes, you really are "that" Irving Washington.

Lil
On my screen I can just make out the green bit in the first photo as well, although being against a darker piece of cloud than in the second one it doesn't show up as much.
So it could well be something on the lens or...
something from Roswell trying (and failing) to hide behind the cloud

Hmmm would a thumbprint have a halo? I don't know much about photography, but wouldn't think so.
Just been out and found some bottled beers from the brewery in question. when Munchkin gets in later, he is goig to have to help me sample them, else I shall be tomorrow, which I'm sure will nt create the correct impression!

Bald Bloke, you're right!
I'm going to have to comb through all my RAW images later on, and look for it in other views, I mean in different directions.
But I won't be photographing moonrise for another 3 weeks now. I have to be up and about early tomorrow morning, so I can't stay up till 1 am doing photography -- and you can never go sraight to sleep after being outside, walking in beauty in the middle of the night!
Toc, that's enlightened self-interest, get Munchers to do all the taste testing!

Just to cover a couple points on the blog:
Titania, my AIM name is catflavored, if you ever want to chat. I can explain the name anytime...
And from across the pond, I'm very interested and excited watching the formation of the European Union. It's so fascinating to think about all the past conflicts and ethnic strife and now to see the countries of an entire continent finally recognizing their shared interests. Its incredible history in the making. I wonder if someday this will happen on each of the continents.

Hi Irv!
How suitable that the Editor's Selection for Monday would be A965234 regarding Lil's green blob (and I like Lentilla's graphic)

Love the redesign, Lil. You're right, it can't be a thumbprint, I was just trying to think of anything possible... Even a UFO would have moved after a while, don't you think? Huh.
Hmmm... beer tasting. Sounds like an interesting evening is planned
And Hi, Titania! I agree, it's an eerie coincidence.
Anybody know how a college student can get a summer job in Phoenix, Arizona, without compromising his morals? The non-profits aren't hiring this year, it seems...

SE Posted May 19, 2003
Well, I'd have to say that you need to define your morals first, as there are certain things I'd do that I wouldn't consider to be compromising...

The green blob in the first photo is very visible on my computer, but Macs have a brighter gamma. Lil, you really need a Mac - and then you can relegate your PC to doing the planet-building too. And I hate to say this but it definitely is thumb-shaped. I suspect fingerprints.
Hello, Irv.

Hello Irving, I don't think we've met before.
What ever it is, it's a nice shade of green, Lil. With all the rain we've had recently, everywhere is wonderfully green here and I love that particular shade of new-leaves-green. The peonies are fantastic this year and I have picked some blooms for indoors.
Toc, are you and Munchers going to make it to the summer meet?
