Why oh why am I not allowed to post a link to
h t t p colon slash slash mp3 dot com slash candi underscore nook?
Does anyone know why? The pop-ups are irritating but all I want to do is let my friends listen FREE to some of my MUSIC! It's hardly a sales pitch!

Might as well have a go myself; Try http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/468/candi_nook.html as that is what my browser leaped to when I typed in the above. Maybe this link won't come across as broken. Now for a wee listen.

MR -
It's amazing how car centric Southern California is. I drive a 98 Ford F-150, still in good condition. However, when I was on the market I would have women stop conversations with me as soon as they found out what I drove. The interesting thing is that the F-150 is the automobile driven most by millionaires Now hopefully that will wear off on me.

Checked my Yahoo mails and came across an advertisment (surprise, surprise) for a company that had a (in my opinion) very cool logo - seemingly so simple, just black and white - but I liked it (the lion part, that is)!

Things are getting better but I definitely overdid it yesterday. I'll go and write out ten times: "I must work within my limitations however annoying and inconvenient that might be."

Courtesy. I have heard a horror story about how a girl in a San Diego highschool refused to drive her 16th birthday present to school because it was domestic. It was a Corvette ZR-1 (one of the fastest and greatest American cars ever built). She wanted a BMW instead. Now I have this only second hand, but I do know the family in question and it would not have suprised me. Now I also think it a sin to put that much horsepower in to the hands of anyone who has not been trained on a racetrack, but that is a side issue. She hated a $40,000 car because it was not German. At the time I made a whopping $2,000 a year. That sort of materialisim sickens me.
One note. The Eastern US seems to be far less car-centric than the West from what I can see. The New Yorkers that I know are always taking taxis and walking places that us Utahns would balk at. I will have to get my camera and take a picture of our parking lot so you can see how bad it is here...

Marv, that's in New York City, where gridlock reigns and mass transportation actually exists. Once outside the city limits, you need a car.
Lil, I'll bet that 20 miles was uphill both ways.
In NJ, high school students are bussed if they live more that 2 1/2 miles from school. Elementary students have a 2 mile limit. Districts can provide "courtesy" bussing for those that live closer, but the state won't provide money for that.

You don't need a car to be too lazy to walk - I've seen people take the bus just to get off at the next bus stop, 5 minutes on foot away...
In a way, I'm glad that I grew up without a car in the family - I've discovered that I can mostly get on very well without one...
We had one when I was a kid, but then a friend of the family borrowed it, got into a car crash (not his fault), my father got epilepsia before my parents had saved up to buy a new, my mother never got around to take a driver's license - so I'm used to transport myself on foot, on bicycle, or public transportation (which can drive one mad sometimes, yes)

Speaking of racetracks..........hopefully that's where I'll be tomorrow. My husband loves the dog races and he's been poorly, so I'm going to take him to cheer him up. Before the weather gets too cold.

The number of people I've seen take one tube stop in Nodnol. I can spit further!
Anyhoo, just seen the new Lord of the Rings trailer and will throttle anyone who points out I have to wait two months. Its a cracker, as they used to say.

Also speaking of racetracks ...... I love car racing and I will be watching the CART race at the California Speedway on Nov. 3 and the NASCAR race in Phoenix on Nov. 10 ....... can't wait.
Marv - I agree that that much horsepower should not be in the hands of a person that does not respect it.
Okay all, what is your most favorite car ever?
I have two, 68 GTO and the McClaren F1 super car.

If that was ~my~ daughter, I'd take that corvette right back. And I wouldn't replace it, either.
Of course, my RL daughter won't be getting a corvette. I really don't want her to have a car at all, but she turns 16 next month and will be eligible for her permit. I am totally not facing reality and am letting my husband handle that one.

Hi Candi, Bumblebee, everyone... I do remember meeting you, Candi
Today I actually need Anticoffee. I just had a bad day, and would like to go to sleep as soon as possible to put it behind me.
One thing, though, is that I don't intend to buy a car ever if I can help it, and I don't think that Andy's (my boyfriend's) N reg Cincquecento (sp?) makes him any less of a desireable person. The car can get two people and a heck of a lot of stuff from A to B, or even 5 people from A to B with only a little stuff (bear in mind that its a wee small car) and that's all he ever needs.
If someone wanted to give me a corvette, I'd say no thanks, I'd rather take the money, especially since I read in a magazine today that I'm apparently likely to earn £100 less per week than a man doing whatever job I do because I'm female... ...and that I'm supposed to have to apply to twice as many places to get this job because of the colour of my skin

*a and a for Sadie*
To me car-centric means that you care for your car far and above what is necessary for the conditions. For instance, cars (and not those prized by collectors, just your random, average, ordinary automobile) that are fussily, completely shiny and clean day in and day out. I don't have the time or energy to run to the car wash or apply the Turtle Wax everyday and frankly I'm suspicious of those trucks and SUVs--designed as backcountry or work vehicles--without a speck of dust on them. Yes, before you say it MR, my car is clean. I pick up debris on the floor and seats and semi-regularly sweep the dust off the dashboard, but I only wash it three, maybe four times a year.
We can always tell the people that are newcomers here in Montana. They're the ones without the cracked windshield.

Check this out:

My fellow Americans (), do you honestly believe that if her last name was not Bush, she would have only gotten a slap on the wrist for possession of crack cocaine? Right now, American jails are filled with non-violent offenders--i.e. drug uses, while the addict children of the powerful and wealthy get off scot free. There is really only *one* solution to the problem, but mentioning it will get this post moderated since it would violate the h2g2 house rules. I'll leave it up to you to guess what I'm talking about.

Montana Redhead (now with letters) Posted Oct 17, 2002
No kidding. And she's whining about it.
Well, FG, if that's your definition of being overboard about your car, that would be SoCal in a nutshell. In Montana, I had a 4X4 because we had ice and snow and I liked to occasionally drive on dirt roads. I sold it because you don't need 4 wheel drive in a state with no snow. However, I can't tell you the number of people who drive Suburbans and Expeditions...and they're single with no kids. Not even a dog. It's sick. And these SUVs have never seen an unpaved road, or ice, or snow. Penny looks positively shabby next to them, so you can image how the truck looks! Well, that and I don't believe in washing cars until there's a reason, and dirt is not a reason. Mud, excess bird droppings, tree sap, sure. But grime? No, I don't think so.
Not to mention that it wouldn't help the truck's appearance much if I washed it anyway.
About bussing...they bus kids, alright, but it costs 300 a year, and not everyone can afford it. We live a mile and a half from school, and we would walk except...surprise! It's across two roads where the speed limit are 45 and 50 respectively, and there's no sidewalk for much of the way. So we pled poor grad student and they gave us a free pass.

FG, surely you don't mean spitting on Miss Bush is the solution?
In the town where I grew up we were bussed less than a mile because a 50 mile-per-hour road separated half the town from the school. No fees necessary.
Candi it looks like Marv's attempt at your link stuck.
