A damp and rather second rate Madame Maxime look alike suddenly appears in teh door, with discernible bits of cassock sticking out of the costume, and a very large bag of broccoli and black pudding clutched in hands "have I missed the banquet, I got lost in another stream?"

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Nov 12, 2001
I wonder if someone could help me with this: I'm trying to describe a recipe, and it includes 6 dl of granulated sugar - what measure do I convert it into for those who don't use the metric system? It was suggested that I use weight instead, but I know that at least in Sweden recipes very seldom use weight for sugar, flour and so on, so most people don't even own a kitchen scale...

I find it deeply depressing that I am actually pleased it is Monday cos I do not have to work on The Project or thi9nk about The Exam, cos I'm too busy.
I hate my life.

Would any one have a scale nearby? I've found out that 6 dl of sugar equals 2½ cups, but how much does it weigh?

Bet you asked Matina, Titania.
In North America, the cups measure would be the most appropriate. I think in UK they use the weight.

20 oz of sugar is a huge amount. What is the recipe for? Jam? Toffee?

Morning all. First day back at work after my cold had me out last week. 142 emails to start the day, but only two voicemails, both of which have been answered.

Thanks T!
Now work is trying to deny me holiday, the holiday I need if I am going to get it all done... I never take holiday. This is so unfair!!!!!

We weigh most dry ingredients by weight, either Imperial or metric, and 20ozs of sugar is a lot!
Whats the recipe,T? I can see if I can find a similar one.

I just double checked that conversion on my kitchen scale. 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar came to 18.8 oz.
Come on, Titania... what is it for?

Sounds like something awfully sweet to me! Fudge, perhaps? In the words of Homer Simpson "mmmmmm...chocolate".
I thought I would follow everyone over here, so pardon me for being a stalker. Afgncaap5, I thougt MST3K was taken off the air a couple of years ago when the Sci Fi Channel was bought by someone without a sense of humor who changed the schedule. Where could a lowly Mistie find the show now? I've missed it terribly.
Signed,

Finally!! Gday everyone, and glad to see Peripatetic Monk's showed up as well. I'd gladly have been here earlier except for bbc-server-overload.
Uncle Heavy is trying to think of a self-description for the main page. Warrior Monk, you should do the same.
I rilly rilly need a cup of tea, Matina, dear...
