Munchkin Posted Nov 13, 2001
[Munchkin] Bought and watched the Shrek DVD yesterday. Some top extras, including a weird dance party thing that is hilarious. It definately counts as the funniest film I've seen in a long time.

We were having a in Debenhams next to the TV sales. They were showing the Shrek DVD and were drawing a large crowd.
We had to leave because the kids were blocking my view! It looked really good, so shall get a copy.

I spent hours yesterday reading "Mary Celeste" threads until I was forced off by hootoo server failures. I'll be back here soon, I promise. Only 10,000 more posts to read...then the backlog here...

Shrek is a brilliant move and the soundtrack is fantastic - I went with about 10 of my friends to see it, it was a daytime session, so there were lots and lots of little kids and their parents, and then a bunch of rowdy 18 year-olds...we had a ball.
You'll be reading for ages, d'E, but it's worth it - the intricacies of the game are wonderful

manky, eh? Yet another of those words that didn't make it out to this poor little colonial outpost.

Titania's monitor problem sounds like classic multiscan rot to me. Try hitting it with some enthusiasm as a temporary measure.
My monitor went to monitor hospital yesterday. The nearest place that services Apple stuff is now in Last of the Summer Wine country. It's a long way but a nice trip .

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Nov 13, 2001
Hitting it enthusiastically worked when it first started going yellow - it would then go back to normal... but I guess it got fed up with being slapped, so now nothing happens - I've even tried shaking it!

Ah, that proves that it is multiscan rot. It can be fixed but it would cost more than a new monitor.

Thanks Amy, that solves it - time for a new monitor!

I agree with all the diagnoses or Titania's monitor except that I think it's the blue that's gone manky; in RGB, yellow = red+green.
Lots of difficulties getting a hootoo page to load without timeouts, and I was at art class last night, never got on to the computer before bedtime. But I got "best of class" for the major project of the semester!
*goes off to get some breakfast IRL*

Amy is right, usually it is less expensive to get the monitor replaced than repaired. Working on them is dangerous and difficult. The cost of them has come down so drasticly that you may be better off to upgrade a size or so and still be money ahead over some repair estimates. The only time you really luck out with the repair of a monitor is if the solder points were bad to begin with and can be fixed. This is not, however, common.
