Okay, people, sharpen them pens and wax up them brickbats!
Time to go to work on an overly long and pedantic entry.
Ready, set, go!

Neither overlong nor pedantic, just beautifully written. Make sure it retains this freshness and spirit through the PR process to come.
There's copious evidence of your writing gifts here. I'll pick out one point now, because others might criticise it. The subtitles are consummate. They adjust the mood and the expectations of the reader for the paragraphs to come, and that's a real skill.
Back soon, when time permits, for thoughts on the subject-matter.

Enjoyed it Tonsil - though I founf the opening sentance a little awkward and had to read it 3 times before I got the feeling right.
Don McLean only has 1 C
Brian Jones was the Rolling Stone who died.
When you're talking about plane crash deaths, how about Jim Reeves - (I don't know about Carol Landis either.)
You may think it worth a footnote that Waylon Jennings reputedly was the man who actually had a seat on the plane and he gave it up for The Big Bopper, who was keen to get back to his pregnant wife.

>First sentence fixed.
Don McLean only has 1 C. >check
Brian Jones was the Rolling Stone who died. >check
When you're talking about plane crash deaths, how about Jim Reeves - (I don't know about Carol Landis either.)
>I checked. I was wrong. Landis died of a seconal overdose.
It was Carole Lombard who died in a plane.
>Reeves died July 31, 1964. Too late for the context of the sentence.
You may think it worth a footnote that Waylon Jennings reputedly was the man who actually had a seat on the plane and he gave it up for The Big Bopper, who was keen to get back to his pregnant wife.
>The whole story can be found in many places. Within the context of the paragraph, retelling it, even in footnotes, serves little purpose.

Actually, neither Richardson nor Valens was originally supposed to be on the plane. If all had gone according to plan, Buddy would have gone down with Waylon and Tommy Alsup, whose wallet did go with Buddy (so Buddy could pick up a registered letter for him in Moorhead) and was found at the crash site. Valens in fact won a toss of a coin for his right to pay $36.00 for the flight into oblivion.

Legends and stories - rock's full of them.
For some reason I thought Jim went down about the same time (I'm sure you've heard the conspiracy theory about abduction by aliens.)
The first sentence reads fine now - Though I don't know if its because I now know what it says or you've changed it.
Either way the whole thing's looking good to me now.

I'll come back to this later, but it looks great so far and it's a much-needed entry for the Guide, but the title will be changed to 'Buddy Holly - singer/songwriter' when it's accepted. Just thought it's fair to tell you, so you can choose whether to make that little change yourself.

Oh, no, you don't! He was a musician, too!
None of his fans can envision him without his baritone ocarina
clutched tightly in his virtuosoistic fists.

Wait a second. You didn't pull that on me when I wrote the entry on Yoko Ono. Why now?
Oh, I get it. You're either gonna use this as update on the smaller earlier entry or you're gonna need to keep the title so that you can slot this in it's place.
Right.

Hey there M'lords,
Excellent entry! Nothing to comment on, really, except --- would it be possible for you to break up some of the longer paragraphs into shorter ones? It's a bit like reading Dickens...

Errr... I am not going to ruminate on the usual Tonsil-laudatio, and how happy we should be to have him aboard etc... This is a beatiful Entry. Brilliantly facetted etc. Tonsil standard.
However... Forty years? You'll have to update this Entry every 5 years. The first bit reads a bit dated, you're constantly talking about the forty years that passed since he died. Is there a way to circumvent this?
Comment 2: Do you mention his exact birthday somewhere? (I confess that so far I have just skimmed over it.)
