I'm back in WebWorld as of today. It might take me some time to get arround to revsisitng this entry though so ....... but I'll get there. I'll do what I can with the format but I'm not going to learn the HTML stuff - I'm not all that much of a technohead and to be honest I'm just not pendantic enough about it. If someone else wants to volunteer to do the layout, I'd be happy to hand the entry over.

I think you'll find that if you can get the content sorted, the Subs will happily take care of the layout for you.
I'd be more than happy to help you with the rest of it. You need to lead the reader into the main substance of the entry by way of an introduction.
You might or might not have noticed my acerbic comments in another PR thread (from which I have now unsubscribed), where all some people seem to want to do is to harp on about SA's past. Most Brits know *very little* about SA, and I'd like to hear more about this intriguing country from the people who now live there, not those who seem to think that it can all be summed up by the word 'apartheid'. God knows, it would make a change from Pennsylvania.

Goodness me! I'm no nationalist, but just as a human being I'm really proud of SA. We've gone through so many twists and turns and - with a lot of thanks to truly great leaders - I feel somehow that we have a general sense of maturity here. Of course every country has its lowest and highest common denominators but there's so much evidence of pure and simple "goodness" here that I realy dont think I'd want to live anywhere else.
There are shocking things too - death rates and crime rates and remaining pockets of bigotry - but its amazing to live in a country where truth can really be put "out there" and generally acknowledged.
I'm probably not saying this very well, but the best way to discribe it is a standard of honesty that requires people to at least be upfront about who or what they are. There are still people who are closed-minded and biggoted - but in most cases they're openly so. Its like SA had its belly cut open and exposed for the whole world to see, and now there's not much point denying what is.
Maybe I'll start a thread on South Africa's victories and see if I can be clearer on what I mean.
Thanks for your input

Felonious Monk - h2g2s very own Bogeyman Posted Feb 13, 2005
I remember when Mandela got elected, we went to the supermarket and bought a bottle of South African wine to celebrate, our first in years. I've always wanted to visit SA, for a rather unusual reason: the fynbos. I love plants and growing them: when I die I want to be buried in Kew Gardens and recycled as mulch. I am in awe of the natural beauty and richness of your country. When I've met people from Capetown they've told me all about the fynbos and how incredibly diverse and amazing it is.
Don't let this fall by the wayside. SA deserves a much more considered treatment in h2g2 than the jejune stuff in this entry: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/A3635426. I've said my bit there and have walked away from the ensuing melee. I'd suggest you do the same.

Whom are you calling 'a fallen bird', Koshana? I cannot reply at your personal space for some obscure reason, but I'm telling you here that I take that remark VERY personally! I demand an explanation, or, or .... I'll tell you that you shouln't project your arrogance on a nice bird like me!

still points out that most brits will say that a lot of words in here aren't SA slang, they are english words that haven't reached the US, and therefore somebody from south africa writing this entry, and possibly been brought up with US TV english will not have heard their useage in the mother tounge.

Agreeing with The Jon, some of those words are basic English words, that can be found in an English Dictionary and used 'everyday' conversations.

Indeed.
'China' is actually cockney rhyming slang - china plate = mate.
"Alright me old china?" being an example that is actually fairly commonly used throughout the UK.

Thanks for that - Again - John. I really do think we got it the first time though.
As for K - wow hon, now THERE's some serious buttons there hon! Surely you didn't identify with that categorisation?
Monk, K is talking about my last journal entry which he couldn't reply to there for some reason so he let loose in this space. I think flying off the handle kindov disqualifies you from the fallen bird category tho - dont you? so the comment in its own delivery made itself redundant.

Don't tempt me girl, or I'll wash your ears! You do know that the name Krabat comes from a children's book and that he is a bird?
No, it's a pity I cannot reply to your diary entries. It has something to do with you being subscribed to Get Writing. I sometimes would like to have a nice chat, you know about this and that. But there you go, it's impossible! You could always visit me at my place if you want.

Ok, I'll do that and spare the "peer review" purists from our non-peer review banter.
And on that note - I really am working on this article - promise! Just taking me a lot longer than I thought . . . . . Busy busy Koshana!
