Can I suggest at the outset Bob that you clarify more specifically where Hadrians wall is, many people won't know either of the loccations you mention in your intro.

'high and 2.02 meters wide'

and

'The eastern end of the wall and was started at a width of 2.5 met(ers) and was reduced in some places to less than 2 met(er)s.'

Metres.

'more killing they could drop things on the attacker now.'

A hyphen between 'killing' and 'they'

'Stangate supply road : during peaceful times used for supplies and trade, war for troops to reinforce the wall.'

That second half of the sentence doesn't quite read right how about 'during war... etc.

'Dacia where he achieved honors'

Honours

'favorite of the Emperor Trajan’s wife he became Emperor when Trajan died. '

Favourite. Also, a comma after 'wife'.

'Legion XX The Valeria and II The Augusta were part of the 43 AD, invasion force. The Legion VI The Victrix were sent to Britain in 122 AD, and were posted to York.'

Having already listed the names and numbers of each legion, I think it would be better to just refer to them by either name or number now, not both.

'Even so form the beginning'

from

'Occasionally referred to as the Limes6 Britannicus the Stanegate road was then used to serve the wall and its forts'

There needs to be a comma in this sentence somewhere, but I'm not sure where.

'80 mile castles 7 and'

Loose the space between 'castles' and your footnote'

That's all for now Bob, I'll give you more later. Again, though, I would consider trimming and possibly even diving up this entry, it's going to be another long one.

Good work though, another strong entry.

Umm, this is very informative, which is great, but its not very inspiring in terms of making people actually want to go there, which seems like a shame, cause some of these places are bloody fantastic. e.g.:

Vindolanda, Condition 5.

Is that it?

Vindolanda is amazing. Everyone remotely in the area should go there. Its so cool, remotely in the area should be defined as like, the british mainland. Its got a not bad museum, I seem to recall pretty damn fine tea, possibly even some sort of scone? And some sort of garden, unless thats a different attraction nearby??? And the fort itself is brilliant. Choose history, choose taking your children, choose to take their hands carefully as they run along the taller walls, choose a picnic, choose fresh air and stunning counrtyside, choose life, etc.

And the parts of the wall which are not so well maintained are even more fun for picnics, take the smiley - football and the along with you, play hide and seek smiley - footprints.

I have loads of childhood memories of having a great time around Hadrians wall, and its outdoors, and historical.

Just my .

Good point, I was trying to write this from a viewpoint close to the time of construction.

Vindolanda, Condition 5. as for this there is a key in the text that attempts to explane this.

Do you think that a section about the wall today as a conclusion to the peice is what is needed. It would not be out of place as the other entries are roads, this is a monument ant there is more to see, so ti could have a place in the entry.

Comments please.

I noticed the key, just felt that it didn't really do the places justice

Whereas a wee The Wall Today section at the end sounds like just the place to mention the excellent picnic spot roman legacy smiley - ok

The requested end section.

Hadrians Wall World Heritage Site

Today Hadrians wall is a peaceful place and nearly all of the 74 miles run through the most beautiful country side, this combined with the fact that there is plenty of the wall left to see make with area a great place to visit. If youn are visiting then the The Hadrians Wall Coutry visit planner will be very useful to you. This not only covers the 75 miles of the wall but the western costal defences, some of the forts north of the wall over a length of 150 miles. This is the best resource to explore the wall and it will lead you to many discoveries on the way.

Because of the sheer size of the wall it would take many weeks to see it all and a lifetime to get to know it. There are places that are worth visiting and make a fantastic day out.

In Vindolanda you will find everything you need for a brilliant family day out, there is something there for everyone.

Housesteads and Birdoswald are well worth a visit for those with a particular interest in the period they have shops , restaurants and good museums, but younger children might be as entertained.

Chesters and Corbridge are very well preserved and should be visited as there are some very impressive ruins to see.

In the urban setting, Wallsend and South Shields are of great interest, the Segedunum Museum at walls end is one of the worlds top ten museums. And the site at South Shields has a marvellous reconstruction of a gatehouse the site is worth the trip to see this feature alone.

In finished form it can be found here A27791328

Some suggestions:

nearly all of the 74 miles --> nearly all 74 miles

to see make with area a great place to visit --> to see make the area

If youn are visiting then the The Hadrians Wall Coutry visit planner -->
If you are visiting then the Hadrians Wall Country visit planner

but younger children might be as entertained --> but younger children might not be as entertained ???

For Segedunum: http://www.twmuseums.org.uk/segedunum/

Not sure about top 10 museums comment though - according to whom?

Nice one.
