In our last exciting episode, our band of brave researchers were on their way to h2g2 to rescue creations that had been stranded in the shutdown. After several near escapes and hair-raising experiences they had landed on h2g2 in a huge cup of coffee on Mt. Sandcastle. The cup had rolled down the far side of the mountain and shattered on impact with a tree. Due to some quick thinking on the part of WM and Affy, no one was hurt and the UFO did not sustain any damage. The hardy researchers, on surveying their surroundings, found themselves in unexplored territory. Voting to do some exploration before getting down to the rescuing job, they were about to set off towards a forrest studded with stone cairns when GL noticed a flash of purple metal at the base of a cairn in the distance. Thinking that purple metal could only mean Ampton, GL wondered why he would be here and Witty wondered why he would hide. We now take up our story near the base of Mt. Sandcastle.
Well, there is only one way to find out. Let's go!
*GL starts walking in the direction of the cairn where Ampton was seen. Soon he is lost to sight in the forrest.*

Come on, Peet... are you coming? Or what?

*Affy draws his sword, and follows the others in searching the forest*
Man, we could be anywhere. For all we know, we've wandered into Project Galactic Guide. Although, they aren't owned by the BBC. Hmmm...
For all intents and purposes, could we state that what is happening here predates hootoo's re-opening? It would all make a lot more sense to me if it did.

Sorry about forrest, Peet. Both spelling look right to me, since one of our clients' names is Forrest-Brown. In that post, I had actually spelled it correctly at first, then changed it because it didn't look right
I think it is okay to have this taking place after the opening (i.e right now) - this particular instance of ourselves just don't know about the reopening. In fact, in another thread, I have commented on Ampton's absence (since he is here, but that instance of me wouldn't know that). In my mind, there are two versions of me - one that arrived here on the UFO, and one that arrived here via reregistering. It should be amusing when we eventually meet up.
*After hiking through the forest (and the forrest, too), the group reaches the cairn where Ampton had been spotted. GL examines the ground and finds Ampton's footprints. He follows them around the side of the cairn, where they abruptly disappear.*
That's strange.

Garius! Look out for that (vital piece of dialogue removed by moderator)!

*Affy whips his head in the direction that Peet was staring at, and sees a giant (vital piece of dialougue removed by moderator). In and instant, his sword begins flashing a brilliant blue, as he prepares to fight. Affy can't help but notice a well hidden entrance to the cairn just behind the (vital piece of dialougue removed by moderator.)*
Darn these moderators, whoever they are! I'll bet we find out about them whenever hootoo reopens, though.

ROFL
*GL swings his head back and forth, not sure whether to look at the giant thing or the cairn entrance. He gets dizzy and falls down on his (vital piece of anatomy removed by moderator).*
Ow.
*He decides that perhaps the rest of the group should enter the cairn while Affy holds off the giant whatever. An appendage from the giant whatsit whizzes by GL's ear after being lopped off by Affy's sword. GL starts looking behind everything he can find in order to find the entrance to the cairn that Affy saw. He goes over and stands where Affy was standing when he saw the entrance and looks back at the cairn. He sees a crack to the left of where Ampton's footprints disappear, and walks back to the cairn. He puts his feet in Ampton's footprints and starts pressing the boulders that he can reach. One boulder sinks into the cairn under his touch and the group of boulders directly in front of him silently swings inwards.*
Cool! A secret door!

Wow! I'd never really thought what one of *these* would look like during a polka dance!

What do you think the moderator did with the (vital piece of anatomy removed)? Can you reclaim it at the lost property office? I mean, it's vital, right?
*Takes a flashlight out of one of her pockets and shines it around the area. There's a passage that slopes downward through the rock.

*Affy watches the monster slowly dance to a halt and gain its breath. Affy guickly sets his polka gun for "One Hundred Years-Three Repeats", and shoots. The dance starts, and the monster, eyes bulging with pain, continues to dance to the overly joyfull polka tune. As the dance ends, a voice shouts "One, Two, Three, Four!", and the song starts over, faster. The monster is now writhing, and is about to keel over from exhaustion from the ridiculously fast beat. Finally, with the monster almost in tears, the song ends. A new voice quickly shouts "One More Time!", and the song starts, even faster than the second time. Affy watches in mild amusement as the creature begs for the torturous music to stop, and when it finally does so, the monster attempts to walk around, but falls to the floor, too dizzy to move. The first thing it sees when it opens its eyes after about a minute is Affy setting his OmeGauntlet to "Polka Gun-The Bohemian Polka." The monster ignores the aching pain in its muscles, and dashes back into the forest*
That'll learn 'im,...
*Affy darts into the passage after the others*

*GL silently slams the secret door closed behind Affy and starts down the sloping passaged. Shadows leap ominously as Witty's flashlight bobs ahead. The air gets steadily cooler as they descend and the walls begin to feel damp. GL can see all of the group ahead of him, but it still sounds as if there are footsteps behind him. "Must be just echos", he thinks, but keeps checking over his shoulder anyway.*

*slowly gaining cognition, st. b finds herself waking up under what appears to be a bush. she sits up, shakes her head, getting twigs and such in her hair because she is still under the bush. crawls out, and sees rocks moving across the path from her. rubs her eyes. looks again. rocks appear to be non-moving. sighs in relief. hears something coming along the path, ducks back into the bush for cover. peeking between the branches she sees some variety of (for lack of a better term) monster stop in path, scratch his head, look around, and push a rock, whereupon the rocks move again. the monster thingie ducks into the rock, and the rock-door shuts again without making a single noise.*
i wonder what happened to everybody else. i guess i better stay here and keep an eye out, so i can tell them about the monster-thingie if anybody else shows up.
*stakes out a post in the bush and keeps her eyes peeled.*

*While continuing down the passage, Witty tries to wrap her brain around the concept of silently slamming a door. After a sharp bend in the corridor, they come to an abrupt dead end. And the flashlight appears to be getting dimmer. The group comes to a stop.*
Well, either there's another hidden door here, or we missed something along the way. I have spare batteries for this flashlight, but we'll be in complete darkness while I make the switch.
What do you want to do?

I nominate that we use up all of the available energy in those batteries before making the switch. Then we've got fresh batteries. Plus my lantern.
(BTW, Peet, we miss you at the Bounty Hunter thread. Are you abandoning us?)
