I actually thought it was Scottish from early on, but got derailed by the Wales thoughts.

The word Bute connects to a Scottish city in my mind, but I can't remember which one. Don't think it's Glasgow. Edinburgh maybe? Inverness?

mikeyc0312 - Humans are mad. How else can you describe a creature that spends large amounts of time arguing with itself?

There is an Isle of Bute in Scotland. They make quite a good cheddar there.

The gentle bleating of the sheep would send you to sleep, or, failing that, you could count them.

One presumes that if they make cheese, they have sheep.

Why, oh why, did I, even momentarily, connect cheese with sheep? What an idiot.

Cows. Obviously. Could he have given his guests a nice milky drink to send them off?

Right, I'm off to go watch Sherlock for a bit, so indisposed here's a hint.

There is - naturally - something ever so slightly unusual about the affairs on this island belonging to the marquis.

And it doesn't involve sheep or cows.

And as a consequence would probably aide in a solid 8 hours kip.

The was Lord Somerisle (gawd how did I remember that?) - and no.

Somewhere between human sacrifice unusual and milking the sheep to make cheese.
