was this what the drama 'gentlemans relish' was about
he was an early photographer and did some art reproductions on film
nude birds and such, venus on a half shell etc.
his assistant was then flogging them to special customers as porn

Yes, Clive.
I have read all of Spike Milligan's War Memoires.
He says that in Pompeii, along a certain street that the 'normal' visitors are not guided, there is a statue of a Centurion weighing his phallus against a bar of gold. The inscription reads, according to SM; "I would rather have my pr**k than a bar of gold"
Another of the 'naughties' not normally shown to tourists is a couple caught in 'coitus interruptus'.
SM also states that many of te 'bordellos' have a sign not unlike the 'Barber's Pole'. Though this sign is more phallic!

The direct answer is no.
Stick with his idea of scandalous images.
and I return again to my prompt about what is it that pornographers on the whole do as a professional activity?

I think I'm going to do 'biographies' for my reading list next year.
I already had Craig Venter, I'll add Spike Milligan to the list.
Anyway - back to the quiz!

I was thinking of "publishing" but that'll do.
Taff +3 'print/publishing'
But the question remains publishing obscene - what?
And there I'll draw my participation to a close for a night. it's waaaay past my bed time so we'll resume deliberations on the morrow...

After 8 hours of chasing wilder and wilder gooses
the closet I can come up with is:
http://www.wordnik.com/words/Peperomia
which is a plant "..which occupies 91\% of gardens at the
site and which Davidson" — PLoS ONE Alerts: New Articles.
There are over 400 varieties in the genus.
Hey, at least it's in a garden.
Couldn't say whether it's good or evil.
