They were first manufactured in 1872, but have been found in ancient Mesopotamia and even in Neanderthal caves, made from animal bones, they have even been cast in rare and precious metals, bronze and silver ones in the 17th century they were high items of fashion and set with precious stones.
They are about 3 inches in length so make rubbish dildos.

Something made of rubber?
As in, cutting into rubber trees to make the sap run out, which is later made into a rubber...something? A dummy, perhaps?
Though it sounds more like the Loriot song about the girl with the PVC sweet that she's been sucking for nine years...

Meine Schwester heißt Polyester,
die lutscht nun schon bald neun Jahre

I believe the romans made them from mastic wood - from where we get amongst other things pistachios - which are not nuts but seeds, and of course you knew that already.
But it's not rubber. It is wooden. A good guess though.

Obscene baby teethers - I don't think would touch the ground before you were hauled before a magistrate - but no.
It's such an innocuous little item - the mind boggles as to 'how?'- but I'm getting a head of myself.
