I'd have to go with either
A) Promethii (which would be the proper plural form, I think)
or
B) MAGPIEs (Meet And Greet People, In Excelsis), because, and be honest, how many opportunities in life does one have to be called a silly little bird *and* have a much sillier acronym for a title?

I personally favor the "towel bearers."

I like Jazz Police. Seems to have absolutely no connection to the subject and it sounds cool.

I came here to say exactly the same thing.....Jazz Police - great suggestion, great name. Vaden, you are a person (note my lack of discrimination) after my own heart.

Guides, Mentors or Outriders, as it is short and gives a fair clue as to what the job is. £0.02
Counting done!

Thanks MaW, but as you can see above, and in lots of other threads, I'm afraid the counting is done, and the decision is made. We're just waiting for Peta to announce the result officially, but that may have been donw while I was away for the last few hours.
Towel Bearers actually came out on top of the count, and I know, because the unofficial counting has been done by me

Peta - as you know I have been pushing for this for some time and I don't think editor should come in the title - after all we shall not be editing. I say 'we' cos I want to be one, and apply for POSTresearchers to be included in the fray. I may not be able to do it over the next few days cos it is my busy period but I do have a track record - that is half the reason I am well known. I almost always start off with 'I am just a researcher Like yourself'.
We are just researchers greeting newbies and when the POST is up and running - We want to be there.
Entries for a name: My offerings are:
WelcomeMat Researcher
h2g2 Welcome Wagon (Used More in America where new residents are welcomed by locals.)
h2g2 Researcher Welcomer
h2g2 Introducer
IntroResearcher
H2g2 Introductioner (So its not a word - so what)
Introducer
Guide Host or hostess (I like this one its double meaning describes it all)
h2g2 Guide
h2g2 hostpitality Guide
Introductive Guide
Guide Projectionist
OK - I think that is more than enough to get started with - Anyone taking on this task should also take on the responsibility of taking newbies under their wing until they are able to fly off in their own direction (and they do and will) - the job should entail giving newbies their wings without being too pushy, if they want your help they usually ask for it.
BTW any joy on being able to post to a newbies page without getting there and frustratingly leaving without being able to get in touch.

Hi Vegi... as you will see at http://www.h2g2.com/A210664 , maybe you should have brought up your suggestions a bit earlier, since the staff already made up their minds about who we will be.
You're welcome to join, tho. Any time!

In that case, just visit the new page that Peta created at http://www.h2g2.com/A210664 , and sign up as a volunteer. I'm sure that Peta can use some help.
And above all, don't you be waiting for the assignment, but start welcoming newbies right away. If you do a good job at that, Peta will notice, and it may help her decide to make you an official ACE.
That's exactly what I'm doing already

By all means do, Monsy. I've already recieved some nice replies from people who liked being welcomed personally.

Yeah, such things happen, sometimes. Well, in the end it didn't really matter at all, although our efforts were appreciated. The staff has reached a different decision
