Caretaker Counter Part 15
Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Jun 9, 2000
OK, **twilight**, y'all have a good weekend!
I have a new challenge now with the threads. I always used to judge change time by observing the start time of the old thread and the diminished size the the object in the scroll bar on the right. I don't think either condition is wholly useful here. Instead I'm counting clicks to newer posts. How many clicks is too many?
*makes self an A L Special*
This morning I'm going to be working to upgrade some of my pages, so I'll keep the IIEM on autopilot. Please give your comments about gauging thread length while you're here.

Hiya Lil!
We're now up to five clicks, which I think is a bit on the heavyside, even though I have a fast connection. For those less fortunate 5 clicks could take terribly long time!

*orders mocha from IIEM
Wish me luck :oP

I guess I'm just old fashioned, I just append &show=300 to the url and it looks just like the old one, or it would if I hadn't switched to alabaster. Takes just as long to load too
BTW, I liked GOO but I like the alabaster buttons and it's a better cover for when I'm at work

Hadn't thought of the whole goo/alabaster-conflict in that way...
You're right, the alabaster-look is more...ehm..."normal"

I think we got up to 7 clicks worth before I went on to the next thread, yesterday ... but I only made the switch yesterday. If I rightly hear the way you guys are going, you'll be wanting the threads to be shorter than ever!

Hi, folks!
IIEM, Kona black, please.
*Sits down for a sec to write Lil a note*
Lil,
I add '&show=9999" to the url and place it in Favorites. But I have a cable modem connection, so refreshing often isn't a problem.

Freedom Posted Jun 9, 2000
Another latte please, IIEM.
I have also found that putting "&skip=xxxx" before the "&show=9999" will save you the time it takes to load the first xxxx posts. There is some guessing & typing involved but I think I can live with that until the Magic Button appears
*Returns to reading old papers on the sofa*

Thats a useful thing to know, it will save me a lot of time on my home PC. Did I tell you about my aquarium?http://www.h2g2.com/U127826

Morning all. *Pierrot flys down to shoulder. GL gives Pierrot a biscotti and orders up some Brazil nuts from the IIEM for him.*
Alabastard looking more "normal" is exactly the reason I am sticking with Goo. The mild weirdness of the Goo seems to me to be more in keeping with the spirit of the Hitchhikers stories. And blue is my favorite colour
SD - I am going to check out your Aquarium now.

Just looked. Looks very interesting. Unfortunately, I almost never remember my dreams
I noticed that the Aquarium is both your homepage and an Article. That could be confusing to visitors - they wouldn't know where to leave messages. I also noticed that the article had been submitted

*Just talking to myself here, don't mind me.*
Barney - I just checked your homepage to see where you are from, because I also know a White's Bakery that produces the world's best cinnamon buns. It's in Bracebridge, Ontario - not too far from Manitoba (relative to say, Australia ). I haven't been to Bracebridge for about 5 years and I think the Bakery closed. Could it be they moved to your neck of the woods?

*continues note to Lil*
BTW, folks are starting to leave calling cards here. Maybe it would be a good idea to hang a basket by the door to it's easy to deposit them. [WM]
*returns cup to counter, places note next to IIEM*
See ya later, folks.

*Asks IIEM for a well deserved cup of coffee*
And you don't have to tell me a dream. Feel free to look at other peoples. Not that theres very many yet.

The plain truth is, when I click to go back to a forum, I just don't THINK about the URL, or adding bits.
*Digs around under counter and finds a beautiful Zuni basket*
*collects cards that have begun to gather on the windowsill and pops them into basket, then puts basket on counter near the door*
