'Lo all. Special please Lil.
As for 1471, It is actually a woman's voice that has been recorded.
All the numbers have been recorded along with the phrases:
'you were called today at we do not have the callers number'
' Telephone Number called to day at to return the call please press 3'
All this is automated and dealt with by computers. The 1471 Lady is using '.' to denote the pause between words/numbers while the computer searches for the correct number to insert in the message.
Hence.The.Jerkyness.Of.Her.Recorded.Voice.

Good for you, I have been too busy to even check up on new researchers this evening, as is my want. Things have just quietened down enough for me to respond to posts again. Still, I will mamage to greet one or two later on, no doubt.
Sleep well, Greebo. *scratches greebo t. cat under chin*

Dang! I missed Greebo. She hasn't been here in ages.
I'm not going to stay too much longer. I'll be back early am, my time, but I'm expecting company in the afternoon, and we're gonna go see Gladiator and then go to Bennigans. First movie I'll have seen since January.
And then I'll watch over things through Sunday and Monday, till you get past your grandparent event.

Babel17 Posted May 20, 2000
Thanks Lil.
Enjoy Gladiator. By all accounts it is incredible. I haven't seen it yet, myself. I will be on and off this evening, between 6pm and 3am your time, but it will be busy here at w***. Will try and keep up
have a good weekend, if i don't hear from you. Sorry haven't had a chance to email.

*Walks in to the Aroma Cafe for the first time, not even sure what time of day it is in the cafe (if time even exists), looks around...*
Uhh, any chance I could get a cup of Ook's Blue Sumatran? And I'd love to try one of Joanna's Heisenburg Uncertainty Donuts, if you have any.
Anything interesting in the tiles?

Babel17 Posted May 20, 2000
Hi Red, glad you found your way here. One Blue coming up.
*brews fresh Special of the Month and passes c(~) to Redbeard*
As for the tiles so far I have got qntil, foglnb and chumbawumba.
I'll try again tomorrow. The Blue Orangutan is Ook btw.
One of the regular customers asked for a Blue Sumatran from the IIEM
(Infinite Improbability Espresso Machine) and Ook appeared, he is very friendly and since I taught him, has become a demon at Scrabble

Hi Babel-17,
Thanks for brewing the Blue fresh for me!
*takes c(~) and blows gently*
Hi, Ook.
I can see that Ook is very intently interested in the Scrabble board. I don't imagine you win many arguments with him over acceptable words to use in Scrabble?
Hmmmm. "chumbawumba" would certainly be a valuable word in the game for scoring purposes, but I think you'll get more meaning out of qntil or foglnb.
BTW, I have a strange feeling similar to deja-vu, only different... almost like I'm in another place at the same time I'm here, and you're there, too.

Such is the nature of h2g2. The novelty of speaking to the same person on more than one level.
Normally I have about 4 fora(?) to deal with at the same time.
Sometimes you just have to let one drop for 10 minutes or so, so as not to get too confused
This is the reason such forums as the Book Nook arose. Too many posts on different subjects in the one forum, so you get offshoots.
One such forum, a type of adventure, takes great pleasure in jumping around, in and through other forums. It can be very confusing.
*pours another c(_) of tea for self*

I suppose that's another reason they give you the -- to help keep it straight in your head.
I like the different fora. It definitely helps. And I was immediately drawn to the Book Nook because of my love for books, and I'll definitely be spending some time in the cafe. I love (and am addicted to) coffee, enjoy coffee shops, and having Ook looking over the scrabble board is oddly comforting.

Hey B-17,
Do you have any bagels left? I fancy one before I retire for the night, I've been looking for this cafe /all/ night, but only if you have some hot choco with a little whipped cream on top. I don't want to have nightmares.
*laisy looks down at whatever is scratching her foot*
B-17, is that your orangutan or did it slip in behind me? Hey what's your name little fellow?
*Ook stands up*
Hmmm.. what's your name big fellow?
Caretaker Counter Part 3
Babel17 Posted May 20, 2000
Finally laisy. Yes Bagel, hot chocolate with extra whipped cream coming up. *passes said items across the counter to laisy*
I am actually just about to leave and turn the place over to automatic. Time for my bed to
That's Redbeard btw, and Ook you have obviously met

Hi, Laisy,
Good to meet you.
Ook definitely has a presence here, don't you think?! By the way, I think he wants to play scrabble with you.

laisy Posted May 20, 2000
Sorry I've eaten that bagel /way/ too fast and I'm out of it. I'll try later tonight.
