It's more the fact that you all are now the age I was when I first discovered this site.

*sip*
I was 14, showed by a friend.
This place has gotten so friggen huge since then! I remember when the "Who's online" page was only about 40 people long...

I think it ballooned after the BBC took over.

[Mog] I'm still mildly offended by the way the Moderators work, but ... well, it hasn't interfered THAT badly from my normal affairs.

[Dylan] Mog, *your* normal affairs consist of lounging around in the Cafe, over-reusing a routine I stole from "Dork Tower" years ago.
[Mog] So what's your point?

I had a run-in with a group of moderators one night outside a bar in Winslow. I - I don't like to talk about it. They did... things to me... I just... I can't... OH GOD, THE HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE SHAME! THE MEMORIES! MAKE THEM STOP!!!!
Just kidding

You know, once I tried to make a video-game RPG set in the H2G2 using RPG Maker, with the Moderators initially as villains. The last boss was inteded to be CATS (as in "CATS: All your base are belong to us"). It was REALLY bad.

IIEM - thanks
*grabs the vanilla latte and sits down in the Deep Purple sofa*
The Who's Online now shows everyone who's logged on to a BBC site that sorts under the DNA, that's why it looks so huge.
To see only h2g2 researchers online right now, try
<./>online?thissite=1</.>
I haven't figured out how to refresh it though, it always seems to revert back to all DNA sites after a refresh...

I think h2g2 isn't that much like Cheers, but more and more like a lifeboat. Youse guys are the latest ones to swim up and pull yourselves in.

[Mog] Oh, *anywhere* on the Internet that doesn't outright call you "Anonymous" or some such is like that.

Yeah, but, people are civil here. Flame war incidence is very low compared to other sites.

[Mog] Reminds me of the time I was in a chatroom; a debate was going on between an Evangelion fanboy and someone who didn't really care either way about whether an EVA or a Gundam would win a fight. It remained entirely civil and logical the entire time; even more surprising, the Eva fanboy *conceded*. [pause] I've just out-geeked everyone in the room, haven't I?
[Dylan] Not me! In fact, I can outdo you: "Mog blast the vent core."

I read enough webcomics and spend enough time online that I have a vague concept of what you're talking about. Big battling robots, yes?
Most of my geekery is vicarious, as I am not plugged into the local geek culture (if there is one... the last non-mall games/comics store that I know of here went out of business about 5 years ago, I think).

You know, if it weren't for the fact that the signal strength from my downstairs neighbor's wireless is strongest in my bedroom, I may actually have gotten out of bed by now...
