It's usually only an eighth of a mile from the crossroad to the CLI building, but sometimes the forest changes the path. I mean, the trees decide to have me walk across some other part of the land to get to my destination. I think they've figured out how to measure my body fat ratio.
*there is a heavy crashing in the treetops in the intermediate distance*

*Affy4 hears the crashing and looks at his sword. The sword is definitely brighter, but not by much. Either the crashing sound is not dangerous, or the crashing sound is further than it sounds like, or a mixture of the two*

Affy4-I've not heard any birds since we entered this forest. How odd. They must have all gone for the winter.

There should be plenty of finches and chickadees.
*the crashing sound in the treetops gets louder, and "ook" sounds can be heard*

Afgncaap5 Posted Dec 5, 2003
*The sword isn't glowing much brighter. Affy4 relaxes somewhat, as this indicates that while the creature is somewhat dangerous, it probably won't actively cause damage. He continues walking*

*Just for the sake of continuing with the posts, Affy4 continues walking, following Lil as before*

Affy4-Lady Lil, this trek seems to be lasting us quite some time. Judging by your previous estimations of the forest pathways, should not this "Crater" of which you speak be nary but a few turns from us? If not, I fear that the forrest may not wish us to leave for the time being....

A strong pulse of magic roars through the woods, leaving Lil's healthstone pulsing and Lil partly blinded by the momentary flash of Affi4's sword* ( F38024?thread=355779 )
Whoa! That came from straight ahead! Did you see the trees bend?

Afgncaap5 Posted Dec 15, 2003
*Affy4 notes that his sword was glowing purple, not blue*
Affy4-What strange magic is this? That was like a Jindak spell, but different somehow. At the very least it had been Yonked. It felt different.....we should investigate!

*breaking into a jog* That explains why the trail has been taking so long -- the trees know I want to see Affi and have been diverting us toward him. The stranger the magic, the more likely it is to be Affi!
I assume that in the rare occurrence where two storylines meet and one is being oneself in both threads, my identity will merge in a sentient sort of way...
So burst into the other thread at your convenience, Affi, and I'll pick up from your cue.

Actually, Lil, in many incidents in h2g2's past there have been well documented incidents of forums meeting each other and somehow forming two instances of the same researcher! Eomando did it during the first ascent of Mt. SandEverest, I did it alot when Afgncaap5 and Minos Krylma shared the same body, the list goes on.
But, there are other instances of people just merging. There's no set definition, so you can do whatever you want when I "burst in"*

*Affy4 makes a few cautious moves towards the noise....*

I hear people talking up ahead. And... clinking.
*looks around to make sure Joanna and Bluebottle are with them*
Where am I?

Yes! The second ingredient for my bomb! Now all I need is some oil.
